Sony and Netflix have partnered up to piss gamers off bring innovation to their Bravia television line. Under this new deal, Netflix subscribers will be able to stream video content to new Netflix-enabled sets this fall.
"Sony has been a world leader in consumer electronics for decades," said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, in a statement. "We are proud to include Sony Electronics among our CE partners who continue to provide new and exciting ways for Netflix members to instantly watch movies and TV episodes in their living rooms on their TVs."
That's great, but what about my Sony PlayStation 3? Would that make too much sense? A ready-to-go user base has everything that's needed, Sony and Netflix. All you need to do is flip on the switch! What's holding you up?
Joystiq points out that a timed exclusive with Microsoft may be the case here. In Sony's statement to Joystiq, they say that they have nothing to announce on any partnership at this time. So maybe we'll just have to wait a bit. Or watch it on our Xbox 360s and Bravia TVs.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Would the world implode?
Fucking underhanded cocksucking commercial terrorists.
The Xbox isn't better than the PS3, Microsoft has just paid everyone to fuck the PS3 over at every turn. This should not be allowed in a "free market" such as ours. The authorities really should look at these "exclusivity deals," there should be rules about this kind of shit.
Microshaft have many year experience of "buying" problems for their competitors, despite fines and charges in the past they continue with their unfair business practices.
Hang on, after that rant, do we even get Netflix in the UK?
No.
Though Lovefilm are starting up a similar sort of thing with a lot less content. Be good to see console support for it.
Phazer
Sorry for all the questions but I'm at work, so I can't try it out until I get home, and it will be late so I don't want to have to spend 3 hours trying to figure it out.
o that's joystiq. they even posted that "lost and damned" and the other episode were timed-exclusive as well matter of factly to then show their bluff.
when was their mention of an exclusivity deal in the first place?
But yes, I already stream them from my laptop, but it would be way more convenient to use my PS3 either through netflix directly, or by using this playon service.
@Black Nexus- the ps3 video service costs money for each download. So if you're already paying for a netflix subscription, downloading a movie on the ps3 is like paying for something you already own. The only benefit is that it's instant gratification on the PS3, whereas with netflix, you have to wait for the video to arrive.
