Netflix Instant Watch on 360 saps 2,853 years worth of productivity photo

And that's in under three months time!

Microsoft has released some seemingly impressive numbers regarding the usage of Netflix Instant Watch on 360 consoles. Since the service's launch in late November of 2008, over 1.5 billion minutes of video content has been streamed. Staggering, isn't it?

Well, it's less impressive when you consider the other statistic they're flaunting: Number of users. According to the Big M, the Netflix application has been downloaded by a million people to date. So, if you operate under the assumption that everyone is actually using the thing that they downloaded and factor in the number of days the service has been available (78), that works out to the average user spending about half an hour each day watching movies and TV shows. And that makes me feel a little better about the human race.

There may also be some cross-pollination going on between Instant Watch and the Video Marketplace as well. Microsoft has stated that their own video downloads are up 174% from December 2008 to January 2009.

How much time are you spending on Netflix streaming videos?

I watch Netflix movies all the time, mostly when I'm bored and sitting at my computer. The fact that they have the complete first season of The Twilight Zone is enough.

This feature on Xbox360 negated my need for a Roku.

Great service, killer app.

Netflix 360...great stuff. Watching Friday Night Lights now in HD. I'm not at all a sports fan, but that show is brilliant.

Good stuff! Could use more HD content though. A reason to turn on my Xbox outside of L4D and Castle Crashers!

I used to watch it all the time, but now, I am tempted to cancel my account once I feel not lazy and willing to drop off this DVD and then cancel my account.

Caught up on all the seasons of Office, Heroes, Weeds, 30 Rock, Ghost in the Shell SAC, and have watched plenty of movies.

But I still play Rock Band a hell of a lot more than I watch movies/TV. :P

None, but I'm willing to bet my brother in law accounts for 1/4 of that 1.5 million minutes. He's sort of insane with his Netflix.

It's good enough, apparently, that my dad's thinking about getting an account and canceling his Blockbuster. Which would be good except that he's going to be hogging the Xbox even more now, and it's hard enough to kick him off of left4dead as it is.
