MAGFest, the Music and Gaming Festival, is one of my favorite events of the year. Last year we had a blast there, and our own community members can attest to the good times that can be had there. For those not in the know, it's a multi-day gaming tournament and console gaming orgy, topped off with the biggest and best (and longest) videogame music concert ever.
Highlights for this year's event:
- 12+ videogame music bands and countless remixers, performers
- videogame composers on hand!
- 3 nights of live concerts
- chiptunes galore
- 24/7 live jamming in Jamspace
- 24/7 LAN and console gaming
- 10,000 square foot gaming room
Musical celebs:
- Sega composer Howard Drossin
- Mega composer (Contra 4!) Jake "virt" Kaufman
- Mass Effect, Jet Set Radio and more composer Richard Jacques
- Video Games Live creator Tommy Tallarico
- Sound designer Scott Snyder
- Acclaim/Midway audio guy Marc Schaefgen
- Game music superstar George "The Fat Man" Sanger
Game Music Bands:
- Select Start
- Metroid Metal
- Powerglove
- Arm Cannon
- Temp Sound Solutions
- Planet Skill
- This Place Is Haunted
- Smash Bros
- Entertainment System
- Pieness
- Rare Candy
- The Megas
This might sound a little forward, but if you like game music at all, you're a f*cking idiot for missing this.
Go. Register. It will take place at the
Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. Be prepared to witness the yearly tradition attendees pouring peppermint schnapps down my throat!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And I actually like the Powerthirst parody.
The only thing I don't really care for is that it's January 1-4. Yeesh. Nothing like having to deal with a bunch of tards who are hung over from New Years.
Then again, if Rob Hubbard and Ben Daglish were guests, I'd gladly deal with the hung-over masses.
It's SO close to Washington DC Union Station and Regan Airport.
Perhaps this is the year it all happens.
