Nerds-o-plenty snatch up Burning Crusade photo

In what is now the day-one PC sales record in North America and Europe, about 2.4 million nerds collectively left their mother's basement to go and purchase the first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade. From Next Generation:

Blizzard announced today that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million units worldwide in its first day of availability, breaking day-one PC game sales records in North America and Europe.

Blizzard said that around 1.2 million copies of the expansion sold in North America on day one, representing over half of the estimated 2 million-plus North American World of Warcraft players. The new release sold 1.1 million units in Europe, where there are over 1.5 million World of Warcraft players.

Blizzard added that by the end of the first day of the game’s availability, 1.7 million players had logged in to play The Burning Crusade.

Impressive. I wonder how long it will be until any of them ever see the light of day again?

I bet they bought more than one copy, just to keep one in mint condition for their collection. Oh how I don't envy WoW players at all.

It's nice to see even destructoid fall back on the old "nerd in their mothers basement" stereotypes and references. I guess when you lack originality, you join the rest of the media and use the same tired old idioms.

Well, maybe if nerds didn't live in their mother's basement we wouldn't have to say that. But they do and so it shall continue to be said.

That's funny. People call me a nerd and I don't even live in the same country as my parents. Burning Crusade is really good though. I play it off and on.

I know some people were having problems trying to update their account with the Burning Crusade expansion. That would probably make sense of the people not updating immediately.

well, being a nerd has nothing to do with the fact that you live in the same zipcode as your parents.

and mostly to do with the amount of caffeine/sugar you intake for non-physical activites.

Hey, everyone else is insulting with stereotypes so I'll join in: "Halo players are ignorant frat boys who wouldn't know a good game if it bit them in the ass."

How's that?

@ Ballistic

1) I know your dying to flame some Halo fanboys seeing as how you're a WoW junkie, but your on the wrong board. This has nothing to do with Halo...

2) Nice job with the insulting stereotypes. I wasn't doing that, I was just stating facts about PITT_sause, where as, you are stating opinions of a game.

...what a think to do on a gaming site. You should be ashamed.

Apparently some people just believe that making sarcastic, oversimplified and generic stereotypical insults are funny EXCEPT when applied to some games that are apparently considered holy.

By which I mean that it is riddled with plot holes.

I like Wow, I play it about 3 hours a week. I have no one on my friends list, not in a guild, just solo. I think it's fun. To me, it's kinda like playing Diablo in 3d.

I hate the fack that folk seem to think that World of warcraft is a nerds game, it's Not, all games are for nerds and that's the way it's been for decades, Which makes me a nerd cos i enjoy the majority of games, i must say though that WoW is quite a good game, but i like to see an ending to a game, But not too soon, games like donkey kong country, donkey kong 64 ,banjo kazooie,Super mario world ermmmm....most of the mario games actually, the Final fantasy games and the GTA series, all these games last a while if you wanna do most of the stuff in it.
WHY AM I TALKING SHIT???
OK ERMM.... i need to make a point here ermmm....?
NOPE no points, but WoW could do with cinematics after completeing a dungeon sort of like Phantasy star online.

Why do nerds have such a big problem with being called nerds?

It is what you are. Do not reject your nerdiness.
Embrace it.
