I definitely respect someone who puts so much passion into something they love, but I dont like his music at all. Just not a rap person, despite the subject.
I'm not a rap person ether but I love random's aka "megaran's" music for the better part of 4 or 5 years. Happy to see dtoid mention him so much.

Random aka Mega Ran is a great artist. He actually got me back into hip-hop because he spoke about things that spoke to me personally. Listen to his song called "Dream Master"; my personal fav. And for Earthbound fans, check out "Forever". They're all on YouTube. This dude quit his job as a teacher so he could be an artist, which was true to his heart, so please show him some support.
I'm not a huge rap or even a Final Fantasy VII fan, but I absolutely love his last album Final Fantasy VII: Black Materia! For something fan-made, it sounded slick, professional, and the you could tell a lot of thought went into the lyrics and ryhmes. My favorite tracks are "Avalanche" and "Absolute". Just an amazing album.

I'd disagree with him being the BEST geek music act around -thay title belongs to The Protomen. Nevertheless, Random is a man that deserves the success he gets.I'm not the biggest rap fan, but his works are solid.

On a more serious note, I just got his new album, Artifical Heart and I dig it a lot. It shows that it has been done in a professional studio with a real band : the production value is very good. And it has awesome collaborations (produced by John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants for starters!)
I'll have to check Random one day but the whole rap thing turns me off... but then, I'm not one to hate a group just based on musical categorisation.

Random is far more tolerable than the bulk of rappers. He doesn't curse, his lyrics aren't needlessly violent (unless you can't Mega Man pew pew as violent), and he goes in-depth with his game references. He knows his game material inside and out.

I would just call this hip hop, it's way to good to be considered 'nerdcore' which is godawful horrible stuff.
@space, really? I stoped listening to "hip hop" when the godawful milkshake crap came out and 50cent tryed to time machine us back to the east coast v west coast days. As it is I've grown past all the childeshness that is modern rap, yet I love a good song about starwars or goth girls.
I haven't been following the bet verymuch but from what I gather most now are one hit wonders that use their 15minutes of fame to get out of the hood, what is there to write about when you just made 10million? Paper cuts, taxes? The best and worst thing about nerdcore is how indy it is not to be "that guy" but if it gets popular it will get worse, I love goin to a mc chris show in a shitty bar with 100 smelly WOW players and getting to give mc a big drunk ass hug after the show, as matter of fact I'm gonna be doin it again in a month

I doubt most people on here know much about current rap and hip hop so most statements I've read have been painfully ignorant of rap as a whole. This guy is pretty awful. Nerdcore is a very gimmicky genre as it is. The only talented nerd rapper I've listened to is mc chris

It would be a crime to leave MC Paul Barman out of this conversation. I don't like the title nerdcore but he was "nerdcore" before the name existed. Just a perverted nerdy Jewish genius of a rapper. His rhyme patterns are probably the most advanced in hip-hop, his songs contain many hidden palindromes.
