Neo Steam:The Shattered Continent early access beta is open photo

Remember those sick steampunk goggles that Atlus Online was offering as a special giveaway to participants in the golden ticket signups to play Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent? Well, if you didn't get a ticket, you no longer have to sulk: early access beta is in full swing and you can go download the client and play the game for free right now. Hell yeah for free games!

If you signed up for Atlus Online before May 20th, you can play the early access beta now, but if you signed up after May 20th, you'll have wait for open beta before you can give it a spin. I have to admit I feel a little burned after the Shin Megami Tensei Online business as that game wasn't very good, but this game looks like it has a bit more promise, and I trust Atlus. Anyone else going to give it a whirl?

I've been playing the early access beta for about a week now, and I'm a little "meh" about it. It's definitely more my style than Shin Megami Tensei Online, but still pretty much your average MMORPG. It doesn't quite have the shiny Atlus polish that I believed it would have. But it's not all bad. I still want someone to play with me come open beta. :)

I've gotten up to level 15 and am not really feeling an urge to keep playing. Well, I'll probably get up to 20 so that I can get entered for those spiffy goggles.

Crap. I wanted one of those goggles.

I've played the first few quests of this and I agree with Ashley, the game is pretty average. I don't feel at all compelled to keep going. Maybe if my girlfriend got into it I'd play more.

There are way too many MMO's coming out. And worst of all their mediocre. I still haven't found the perfect MMO yet, *sigh*

From a non-mmorpg player (aka, me) I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. I've hit level 15 twice now (I didn't know the closed beta characters would be wiped) and the game is starting to open up and be more challenging.

The higher level stuff (ie. crafting, steam machines, cores) look like they could be pretty awesome once you put some time into them. Luckily, it only takes a few hours of playing before you hit the real meat of the game.

Like most others have said, I'm afraid it's turned out to be your typical free-to-play MMO. There's nothing really stand out about it at all, and the fact you're limited to only one faction is a real annoyance. I'm not a fan of point to click movement either, and the WASD setup is extremely clunky. So, yes. It's pretty disappointing, especially for a steampunk fan. I'll pass. WoW puts enough on my MMO plate as is.

I tried it the other day. It was highly generic... stopped playing after a few minutes.

I've been playing it. It's all right, but there's just not enough there to make me want to continue to play. I've gotten a character to Lvl. 10 and so far every quest has been to go kill a set number of creatures and/or pick up some items. Maybe the game picks up when you get to higher levels, but meh.

My computer is lacking in power so badly that I couldn't even get the game to display properly. Sadly, I was looking forward to at least being entered into the drawing for the goggles, but it looks like it's not in the cards.

I got my adorable little bobcat girl to level 13 before realizing I was fully expected to be PVPing at every opportunity. Somehow I also wound up in the enemy faction's starter town. That probably would have gone very badly if not for me unlocking a stealth power just beforehand.

That was after about two hours of play. I'll do my best to chug up to 20 for my contest entry, but open PVP is a game killer for me unfortunately.

I'm too absorbed in WoW right now.

I played in on the first day, re-rolling several characters up to 15, and it certainly did feel super generic. Kill X and/or bring back Y. Doesn't seem like there's much of an interesting back story either or at least, none that I could find easily. Definitely a meh.
