As we hurtle headlong toward the Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix has unleashed a trailer for the PS3 version of NeiR, known as NieR Replicant. It's got plenty of violence, epic music, and sexy intersexuals, which is really all you could ask for.
I must say I am digging the design of this game, especially when it comes to the monsters. The creatures shown in the video are incredibly freaky and unnervingly odd. The more I see and hear of this game, the more hopeful I become. I've always got time for a senseless action game, and this one looks like it may very well be a good one.
Hit that link for the trailer and let us know what you reckon.

Meet the rest of the team
Looks good though, I wasn't interested it this game when it was first announced awhile back but I'll probably be picking this up unless it gets horrid reviews... In which case I'll wait till it's really cheap, and still pick it up.
I know some will knock the 'lack' of colour, but it really adds to the atmosphere of the game.
Rather than choosing monotone browns and greys, white predominantly features in the video, giving everything a cold, harsh feel, making the world the game inhabits all the more cold. You can tell the game is heavily stylized, and stylized rather impressively. Not many media products use colours such as white and black to such an effect as this does.
I'm glad to see Square taking a different art direction then they do usually, and the lack of prettyboys in the chracters is a welcome addition. The main character looks like a guy with long hair as opposed to a whiny teen male awkwardly stylised to be effeminate.
In response to that, Square actually made this game to cater to western audiences as well as eastern, thus the main character is more 'manly' than usual for a Square-Enix game. I, for one welcome this change, wheras Cloud is a awesome/cool looking dude, many western gamers will be alienated by how he looks, sadly the 'fag' syndrome will be levelled, (and already has) against him.
So, in order to combat that, Square decided to pursue another type of male character, one more masculine to cater to a large demographic, I'd say they have done quite well.
I think it looks really stupid. I cared about this game before, now I care less. Why when they make stuff for "Western" audiences, we get tons more blood? Is that really what the West cares about, instead of, I dunno, quality gameplay? (hi, Last Remnant).
Boo.
This looks more interesting than FFXIII honestly (even if it is pretentious). But I guess it all depends on what the gameplay is like. But, why cant they just make another Vagrant Story?
haha Jim, I think that's the first time I've heard it in the context of "intersexuals", I like it! Trailer looks pretty solid and something fresh and new from Square Enix.
I'm definitely intrigued now but still going to hold my breath. Square trailers are known for being fairly awesome so I'll wait for the trickle of real information to come in over the next ten years.
Didn't like the obvious pandering, though - to Western and Japanese audiences alike. Fighting in a nighty and a character that looks suspiciously similar to Jack Skellington (who just happens to be extremely popular in Japan)? Come on.
I was sceptical, as Square have avoided action games for some time now. While it looks okay
I think what western gamers want, is a compelling game with a decent story and characters that are adults, who haven't just graduated from school. So far this seems to have a 'save the princess' paper cheese plot and andro characters (excatly the oppopsite). If a game is good, it will sell. Thing is, that it looks like Square are trying a bit too hard to please us. Also too much pandering to the pretty boy andro crowd, but this is staple japanese cliche now anyway, one they love, and we love to hate. If this is the case, and SE need to appeal more to outside audiences, keeping on designing such annoying andro characters won't help them.
Dear Square Enix, you've just had Batman AA sell gangbusters for you. Go and speak to Rock Steady, about why Batman kicks butt in reviews, and you might learn something. Do some market research too, via forums and such, and find out what we want to see on shelves, because you still seem unsure.
I agree, a new Vagrant Story would be cool, but I guess I'll have to give this Nier a chance to prove itself.
hmm...that seems iffy, but interesting. if it's just a plain old boring hack n slash then i'm out, but if it can hold a vaguely entertaining plot then just maybe.
The monster design makes me want this so much. The inclusion of a hermaphrodite hero makes me want it even more simply because it looks like this is really taking chances. Consider it wanted.

This game certainly shot up a notch on my radar.
Give us more cloud not someone like this...

Oh, as if they haven't catered to you SINCE FF7? That reason alone is why I don't buy SqEnix RPGs anymore.
This, however...might buck the trend. The only oth thing I want to see out of that company is a Chrono Trigger remake and a sequel to Soul Blazer.
also, i've never seen a current-gen videogame this surreal! i like it!
Boo.
dmc rpg.

Looks ok. Need to see more though.
Hmm.. This God of War game is doing great in the US. How can we compete? I know! Make a game like GoW, but with trannies!

Figures, when your fighting wave after wave against marble balls.
Thank god for SqEnix
