Need a tower defense on the cheap? Defense Grid is on sale photo

I'm the kind of guy who would spend half a grand just to save fifty bucks, so throw a game with a $5 price tag my way, and I'll surely bite. Such was the case with Defense Grid: The Awakening, which is on sale at Steam right now.

As pointed out by the fine gentlemen at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Defense Grid has been marked from $20 down to a mere $5, and will remain obscenely cheap until May 13. I know another tower defense-esque game, Plants vs. Zombies, came out recently, but Crazy Dave should be perfectly fine by himself for a few hours.

Resident PC game extraordinaire Jonathan Ross reviewed Defense Grid, and he says we should all buy it for great justice. Plus, it's an indie game, so you can feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever you play the thing.

@Knives

I had the same issue. The last level is ridiculous. I went through the rest of the game without too much difficulty, then hit the brick wall of a final level. It was a bit of a letdown, it seems like they want you to beat the level in a predetermined way, which kind of goes against the whole joy of tower defense games.

I'm hoping they add multiplayer to this at some point. Tower defense games without multiplayer are less than half as fun. :P

£3.50, had to grab it. £14 was way to much for this game personally so i was waiting for a deal.

WHAAAAAAAT? That's so fking cheap. I bought it back when it was $15 and still haven't had time to play much. The demo was a lot of fun though.

I just paid $20 for this over the weekend and already beat it. The last level was a bitch, but I got past it. I had one orb left, and I kept blocking the carrier-of-the-orb's path so he would turn around and go the long (undefended) area. When he got fairly close I would sell the blocking tower (sometimes it took 2 towers to block correctly) so he would turn around and come back through my defenses. It took a little while, I threw some mortars in the back area to wear him down a little while he is wandering around out there...does this make any sense at all? Anyway the layout on that stage was a pain in the ass...

Good game, a steal for $5!!!!!!

^^^forgot to mention...you need to repeat that block/unblock several times...at least I did...probably ten times actually. Another baddie would grab the orb, just keep doing it until everything is dead! Keep your eye on the ball!
