Alone in the Dark looks like everything Silent Hill 5 could be, without being Silent Hill. As one of my favorite series' ever fails to generate the kind of "DO WANT" excitement it should, Eden's Central Park nightmare has crept up and claimed my full attention.
Aside from the fact that the choir is totally singing "Necro Boogie," this is an awesome trailer that shows off a little more action than I've seen before. I've liked almost everything about Alone in the Dark thus far, and can't wait to get my hands on it to see if it plays as good as it looks.
I can only hope this game causes me to boogie as much as the necro's.

Meet the rest of the team
No, no, no, they're clearly singing "necro booty". Which is either a reference to a zombie pirates hidden plunder, or...other things I'd rather not think about.
I agree that this game is looking better and better all the time. I'm also a big Silent Hill fan and while I think V will be good they certainly haven't shown how it's going to be any different than the past games, just with fancier graphics. Alone in the Dark is actually doing something with the power of these consoles (and making a nice looking game to boot).
The outdoor Silent Hill 5 shots got me all DO WANT excited. They've got the visual style for the town itself down to a Tee, and it's absolutely brilliant. Not so sure about the indoor shots, or the inclusion of quick time events, though...
Coincidentally, one of the best songs from the Silent Hill soundtracks (It's from SH2) is Alone in the Town.
I'm looking forward to AitD5. I just hope it gets a worthwhile, well made PC port, rather than the rash of horribly made, unoptimized abortions that have been released lately.
There's another video floating around with the producer explaining how the inventory and area effects work. I saw it on Xbox Live. The whole business of using flammables and donor bags of blood (attracts monsters) to make trails which then can be set on fire or used otherwise, well, that's pretty sweet.
I'm not saying this isn't looking fucking awesome. It does,
but it doesn't seem to be scary. I don't know why I get that feeling. I hope they prove me wrong. Looks great either way!
I hope to god this is good. I've always kept up with Alone In The Dark ever since the original game. Never played any of them though. Well except for a shareware version of the very first game, lol.
This looks like an amazingly good AITD game to start with.
@Thestripe: I doubt a missing thumbstick will matter much - As always WASD will takeover the left stick, and the mouse will take over the right. Even assuming you don't have to hold a button/key to activate the 'wiggle burning chairs around' mode, I still don't see it being a problem. It may even lead to more responsive chair wiggling, if we're lucky.
Meh. I couldn't have been less interested in this game before seeing this video, probably because there have been 74 "exclusive" previews of it on every bloody website and magazine... but after watching that video... I care even less.
So it's New York, everything's dark and gloomy, you play a dull guy who wanders around with a torch and a handgun. There's an occasional zombie or rodent to shoot, oh and you can also jump up ledges and climb down ropes. Woo. Also you can drive a dull car for a small section. Woo.
Apart from the light effects on the torch and the fan, graphically it looks very ordinary (it looks like it was made with the Source engine).
M/KB is a crutch. Besides, I feel like because it's designed for a console, that's certainly going to be the best experience; they designed that contextual movement/action system for an analogue stick. Frankly, so many times I'm playing a PC shooter wishing I'd spent the money for the kit so I can use my 360 controllers with it. Too many arbitrary key assignments for me.

Wheres the sticky tape gone?? That stuff stuck anything to anything.
But even without that, the game looks nice, Im liking the lighting, but I dont know that carrying burning things is a good idea, despite the graphics it provides.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. I can only hope the game won't cause me to become racist as much as necros.

Do want. Oh yes, most definitely.
@foxhound009:
PC, 360, PS3. The standard platforms for games of this ilk.
Also I wonder if LordRegulus put this thing together, I think he said he was working on AitD stuff before quitting...
necro boogie - ne probudim, as in, i wont wake up..lyrics go something like,
from this dream i wont wake up, i'm dreaming with my eyes open, etc etc.
On topic, I can't wait for this game.
The game looks like it has a lot more to it than I first thought, looks like a winner!
but it doesn't seem to be scary. I don't know why I get that feeling. I hope they prove me wrong. Looks great either way!

I hope it's not a let down.

10/10
The two tech demos and now this, wow. I'm not a horror fan but i'd suck up my yellow spine for this game.
Now the question (for me) is... 360 or Wii? Beautiful graphics, or full control over the environment?
