NCSoft waves goodbye to the ESA photo

The ESA confirmed today that NCSoft has officially left the organization, marking the seventh departure this year (Activision, Lucasarts and idSoftware were a few of the others to leave).

The reasoning behind this is more likely financial than personal -- after the recent announcement that NCSoft would be shutting down the servers for MMO Tabula Rasa in February, the company likely needs to cut corners. Still, it looks bad for the ESA, who are likely restructuring the format of E3 again in hopes of counterbalancing this crisis.

While E3 has not officially been announced as open to the public, it has been disclosed that the show will be big again. If you could find a way in, would you be interested in going, or is all this ESA drama have you thinking twice?

But HOW does this affect Guild Wars 2?!

I'm putting forward the notion that from nwo on, any piece of news related to NCSoft bust also post how it affects Guild Wars 2.

I want Guild Wars 2.

I like the E3 hype. Its a bit like gamer christmas. Not even so much from the showroom floor but I really enjoyed the demos they did on G4. I wasn't really into fallout until I saw it demo'ed by Tom Howard. After that I was pretty jazzed about the game.

So I dunno, maybe something like E3 but more web/tv centric as to cut costs ....no one would need booths :P.

In the end its about the games to me....so show me the games!!

PUH-WEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEE ask Arena Net about Guild Wars 2. There's been nothing on it in ...like 6 months!!

Here, I'll write the email for you, all you have to do is copy and paste really:

TO: press@arena.net

Good evening Arena Net,

NCSoft has been in gaming news and on gaming blogs a lot recentley, some if it bad news, some of it neither here nor there.
Me and the fans of Guild Wars are beginning to wonder how all these changes are affecting ANet and the production of Guild Wars 2. No news or press releases have been issued in quite some time, and quite frankly we're worried.

Please can you give us an update on procution, or just tell us that everythings going fine or...ANYTHING really! As long as it isn't bad news.

Yours faithfully,

Colette Bennett of Destructoid.

Maybe they can focus on making some good games now.

Seriously.

I always used to be jealous of E3 attendees, but these last few years, most of the big press conferences have been available online within minutes of finishing, and there ae plenty of livebloggers out there highlighting the minutiae of the event....I dunno - if they want the public to get a taste of the excitement, why not release limited demos for some of the announced games at the same time as the announcement.

I could easily see this working for the PS and 360 - the online stores could make some content available as it gets announced at E3, not just videos but actually short, playable demos, which could be set to expire after a set period if necessary. Hell, even some exclusive developer interviews would be enough to make gamers feel like we're in the loop. This might be a little more difficult to do for the Wii, but even so, you could have downloadable demos of newly-announced DS titles etc.

I dunno, I'd like to see the big devs and console companies stop acting like it's 1996 when it comes to releasing new info. I already think that a lot of games get announced waaaaaaay too early, and this can lead to a totally skewed set of expectations from users - but how much more bearable would it be if, instead of a few screenshots and short videos of some title which is still 2 years off, we got some playable content to sink our teeth into? I'd have been happier with a 2-minute demo of, say, Project H.A.M.M.E.R than a slew of pics which ultimately led to nothing....
