NCsoft announces MMO super-studio, Carbine Studios photo

NCsoft has announced the formation of Carbine Studios, a new studio comprised of 17 former Blizzard employees (including lead and senior developers from the World of Warcraft team). As if that weren't intimidating enough, Carbine's programming director, Tim Cain, was the producer, lead programmer and designer on Fallout. Impressed yet?

From Gamasutra:

“This is a dev team made in heaven,” said Robert Garriott, CEO for NCsoft’s North American business. “This group is as experienced as they come in the area of computer role playing and multiplayer game design. Making successful games is second nature to them. They are a very welcome addition to the NCsoft family. The gaming community should be excited to see what great things come out of Carbine Studios in the coming years.”

The studio are currently working on an unannounced MMO which, according to their Web site, should be "high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative." We've got pirates, orcs, super heroes, and all manner of elves that have invaded the MMO space -- so someone tell us before Carbine does: What hole still needs to be filled?*

Pirates, orcs, super heroes, elves?

Sounds like we're missing ninjas and robots to me.

Yeah Robert, Richards brother, cofounder of Origin Systems and at one point VP of EA before they became the incredibly humongous piece of shit they are now. EA really is trying to gain some respect back and they might get it, but they started going way down hill right around the time Robert Garriott left.

NCsoft can't make MMO's for shit. Every goddam game they make feels like it's all built on the same engine. Even Tabula Rusa or whatever it is plays like ass, with about as much complexity as the ranged combat in WoW.

second booleans comment.
anything with NCsoft in it becomes crap by default.

@pew: using wii opera browser to post this is as close as you can get for a wii MMO with waggle :)

MMO announcements are always so bittersweet.

On one hand you think "Awesome, another potentially great MMO."

On the other hand you probably won't be playing anything for another four to six years.

Meh!
After being on World of Crackcraft nothing impresses me.
i mean, MMO´s are really the same concept. Even FPS implement more things this days.
The only MMO that is interesting for me right now is Huxley.
