I’m just not that into hip-hop in general, but when I hear something as obviously manufactured and simple as the song featured in this NBA Live 09 trailer, it makes me want to hurl. “Champion” by Flipsyde features (and is produced by) Akon, best known for grinding with an underage girl onstage in Trinidad, and the song would probably have fallen by the wayside (since it’s completely unremarkable) had he not joined in with refrains of “we ready / yes we ready” and some “oh”-ing. Ugh.
But now, EA has decided to use it in the above trailer, so I was forced to listen to the song while watching said video, which caused me so much grief that I was spurred to write the preceding paragraph. Anyway, in videogame-related news, this rather simple “Champions” trailer showcases some gameplay footage. It also features a profile shot of San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, who, coincidentally (or perhaps not so coincidentally), happens to be a three-time NBA champion and cover athlete for the French version of NBA Live 09.
In case you’re getting this year’s three basketball sims confused with each other, remember that NBA Live 09 is the one from EA Sports that has two potentially revolutionary new features this year, Dynamic NBA Live DNA and NBA Live Rewind. If you want to try it out, a demo of the game has been on Xbox Live since September 4th and on the PlayStation Store since Thursday. NBA Live 09 will be in stores very soon, on October 7th, for PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP; hit up the game’s official Web site for more.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I look forward to buying NBA Live 09 next year, at a low used price.
The theme song was shite though and I did enjoy the game. You should get FIFA 09 for a half decent soundtrack.
