This is the first footage of EA Sports' Wii-exclusive (as far as we know, anyway) NBA Jam, and my goodness, is it glorious. Just as I hoped in my list of NBA Jam suggestions, developer EA Canada looks to be including a healthy dose of nostalgia in the renewal. As soon as I saw the telltale white flash of a loose ball, I started to giggle like, well, 8-year-old me -- and seeing players do somersaults before dunking only served to widen the smile on my face.
They've also employed a guy who sounds like a second-rate knock-off of the original NBA Jam announcer, the inimitable Tim Kitzrow, so I guess that's something to be less ecstatic about. Still, I'm really digging the cartoony-but-with-real-faces look of the game, and it seems like it's keeping the arcade attitude of its forebears, so I can't wait to check it out for myself.
NBA Jam is still set for a fall 2010 release. You can vote for the players you'd like to see in the game at the official NBA Jam Web site.
