The marketing people at 2K Sports confuse me. EA Sports has been promoting the hell out of NBA Live 365, a brand-new part of NBA Live 09 that includes Dynamic DNA and NBA Live Rewind, presumably because those features differentiate the game from its competition. Dynamic DNA in particular sounds like a potentially revolutionary addition, providing data like player streaks and tendencies so that the game is literally “made fresh daily.”

But apparently, NBA 2K9 comes with an essentially identical feature called “Living Rosters” -- check out the video above for details. I say ‘apparently’ because I had no idea that Living Rosters existed until the trailer was sent to me yesterday -- the day before the game’s release date. Having Living Rosters in NBA 2K9 negates one of the foremost advantages of NBA Live 09, so now more than ever, the games will have to be compared on their gameplay above all else.

Speaking of the NBA 2K9 launch, there’s new word of an interesting development. The game came out today for the PS3, 360, and PS2 -- in fact, some of you may already have a copy -- and as far as anyone knew, those were the only platforms for which the game was being developed. That’s no longer the case; I received a press release this morning (after the jump) announcing that NBA 2K9 will be out for the PC on October 21st.

This strategy makes a lot of sense for 2K Sports, since they can take control of a PC sports gaming market that EA has now left behind -- at least when it comes to football and basketball. Do you care about NBA 2K9 on your PC?

[Editor’s note: Again, sorry about the video quality. It must be an issue with the videos for NBA 2K9, because this doesn’t happen to me otherwise. -Samit]

damn it Samit! review Live and 2K already!! I must know, because I've had a lot of fun with Live 09's demo, 2K9 was definitely much faster paced game, but I don't know, something about it kinda wasn't as fun, though it looked like a damn broadcast of a game. But what I want to know is which game has the most value for the money. I know Live has the AllStar weekend stuff, etc, etc. But is there more than meets the eye for 2k9? Lemme know!

I just played the demo, and compared to NBA 09, 2K9 felt way more solid.

The only thing that kept me from completely going with 2K9 was the 365 in 09, but this "Living Rosters" sounds like it's a good enough sub.

It was a pretty tough decision until hearing all of this. I'm 80% sure I'm getting 2K9.

Yeah I thought 2k9 played more 'realistically' but, I had way more fun playing the Live 09 demo. I just couldn't hit a shot to save my life in 2k9 it's not like I'm a noob at sports games, I love 'em. I'm anxiously awaiting your review Samit. Especially after your great MLB 08 The Show review...I can't believe some sites thought MLB 2k8 was better. *sigh but I digress.

I mean 2k9 was an already no-brainer for me, but I like the fact that they'll be updating player moves as well to mimic what they've done in real life.

Samit: get some more info outa 'em regarding the frequency of updates. Is it billed as truly daily roster updates?
The shooting with the Right Analog seemed harder this year in the demo. Am I just rusty?
This would make 2k a no brainer over the EA offering.
I am anxiously awaiting your review.

Looking forward to this. I never owned a console, well not since my Sega genesis, so I've never played any 2K sports games. I'm glad that 2K is picking up EA's slack. EA's all like "Piracy killed NBA Live 09 and Madden 09", to which I say no your fucking shitty PS2 ports of the games did.

Also to the dicks saying that PC gamers don't like sports games, what exactly do you base that on? Your own opinion? There are a lot of people who like the Madden games, MVP Baseball (Large Mod Community) as well as the NHL series. It's just that EA are retards and never updated the game play or graphics past 2004.

I love sports games on the PC (When it looks like an effort was made) and no I don't use a mouse and keyboard. Seems people think that using a PC means you can't buy and use a gamepad.
