Nazi Zombies making an appearance in World at War photo

Many have bemoaned the fact that yet another World War II shooter is on the horizon. But what if a new WWII shooter had zombies in it? That's exactly what World at War developer Treyarch was thinking. In the latest episode of GameTrailers TV Treyarch unveiled a cooperative zombie survival mode that stands outside the central game, but will be available in multiplayer.

The mode will consist of four players fighting against infinite waves of Nazi undead. The point is simple survival. Players will be awarded money to buy weapons from crates as they tear through zombie hordes and have the ability to buy objects like wood and sofas to barricade a central structure on the map.

Zombies will be able to tear down barricades gradually, so it appears to be of the players’ best interest to stick together and buy things at the appropriate time. There also appears to be some sort of revive mechanic present in the mode, but it wasn’t explained. Players will have to complete the campaign in World at War to unlock the zombie mode.

Unlocking it is a very small price to pay for something that sounds entirely too cool. What do you guys think? Are you ready to start blowing off body parts in the name of survival?

i dont mind the zombie mode, now if they had implemented the same features like RANDOM ZOMBIE ATTACKS and awesome Ui. id be pointing fingers and screaming plagiarism,

let the halo kiddies play this and us gamers can enjoy L4D

we should be rejoicing lol

Finally, a historically accurate WWII game.

Sounds like someone at Treyarch sticking in whatever they can think of that's popular and saying "Hey guys, zombies are popular, right? Please buy our game".

And I think I might have to do that.

i agree with you, but what i think is pissing people off is treyarch's shameless attempt to get more sales by throwing this zombie mode in, and pretty much stealing the whole idea of L4D co-op survival gameplay and trying to make it their own. this zombie mode has actually perked my interest quite abit, and being someone who still hasn't gotten CoD4 and was plannign on getting it over this, i may actually now have to buy W@W instead of 4. if only i could get both

Please keep that "this is for kids, real gamers play this other game" elitist bullshit off of Destructoid. Playing this game is no better and no worse than playing Left 4 Dead. Gamers are just gamers, so stop pretending you're better than people with different tastes.

@hood_954
I don't honestly think this is being done to drum up sales. I mean, let's think about this realistically. Are they trying to be clever, or are the developers just regular guys like you and me, who thought it would be rad to have a WW2 zombie mode? It's their job to make the game fun and entertaining, and I'd say this fits the bill. Why get annoyed by their adding more replay value to the game?

I don't think they stuck it in there to generate more sales, maybe it was to see how interested the community would be in a full fledged Zombie game (if anyone remembers Treyarch was working on Dead Rush, which was sadly canceled)

I just don't like that zombie mode. Is that complaining? No, that's an opinion.

Damn it. I didn't want to like this game (aka buy it) but this makes it sound more likely that I will crack under pressure and buy it. Damn it.

If they had mentioned this earlier, I would have been excited for the game a long time ago.
