Nazi Zombies making an appearance in World at War

Nazi Zombies making an appearance in World at War photo
     top stories

Many have bemoaned the fact that yet another World War II shooter is on the horizon. But what if a new WWII shooter had zombies in it? That's exactly what World at War developer Treyarch was thinking. In the latest episode of GameTrailers TV Treyarch unveiled a cooperative zombie survival mode that stands outside the central game, but will be available in multiplayer.

The mode will consist of four players fighting against infinite waves of Nazi undead. The point is simple survival. Players will be awarded money to buy weapons from crates as they tear through zombie hordes and have the ability to buy objects like wood and sofas to barricade a central structure on the map.

Zombies will be able to tear down barricades gradually, so it appears to be of the players’ best interest to stick together and buy things at the appropriate time. There also appears to be some sort of revive mechanic present in the mode, but it wasn’t explained. Players will have to complete the campaign in World at War to unlock the zombie mode.

Unlocking it is a very small price to pay for something that sounds entirely too cool. What do you guys think? Are you ready to start blowing off body parts in the name of survival?

So this is the closest thing the ps3 will get to left 4 dead. Hope it has split screen.

Damn.

Game developers are keen to the zombie craze. They know I will buy it now that there is a zombie game with in the game itself.

Sounds to me like they're trying to squeeze the Horde mode from Gears 2 in there to me. Which would be cool if Epic wasn't already all over it.

Emrah, L4D will be much better polished. Treyarch knows no one will buy their game due to their crap reputation, so they're half assed ripping off more popular games like L4D and Gears 2 to get more sales. I was actually going to pick this game up, but with a desperate move like this, I'll save my money for something else.

So much zombie in so little time, SOMETHING has to be shit.

You just can't have this much A+ zombie at any given time because the LAST time this sort of thing happened we lost the dinosaurs.

No. Wolfenstein did it already; L4D is doing it now. Shut the fuck up, Treyarch, and stop riding people's coattails.

It seems a little out of place but as long as it is not just shoehorned in cuz zombos are the new hotness, then I'll accept it. It does smell a bit like they just hopped on the rotting bandwagon tbh.

Say what you will, guys. I'm playing the single-player campaign now and while I can't review it, preview it, or say anything in detail ... let's just say I think it would be a mistake to write this game off before you play it. Dale did a write-up not long ago, and his impressions tend to agree with mine. Stop hating before you've played it. The game is looking good.

Shirley, you can't blame them for putting extra value in their game tho. This is simply a bonus, not their selling point. I'm not actually interested in L4D, because I don't like scaring myself or stressing myself while playing a game!

Zombie mode was also popularized in cod4. They only added what people were already playing and gave it a twist. This is a much better option than trying to organize a cod4 zombie match over xbla.

Now they just need to officially add in a Micheal Meyers mode.

Okay, a few things:

1) This is just another multiplayer game mode. Are you seriously going to bitch about a developer adding an extra multiplayer mode to their game?

2) No one is forcing you to play zombie mode. Hell, no one is forcing you to play World At War. Stop complaining just for the sake of complaining. If you don't like it, you don't have to play it.

3) They have not added zombies to the campaign. This is a novelty gametype that has been included in the game so that people can enjoy it. This is not fucking rocket science. They have not compromised the campaign's realism. Use your heads, people.

4) Good grief.
