Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is gearing up for its big console release and the endless 10/10 rave reviews that it gets to enjoy as a PS3 exclusive, but developer Naughty Dog has been chatting recently about the possibility of taking Drake outside the Black Box o' Blu-ray, voicing interest in a potential PSP outing for the treasure hunter.
"We'd love to see Uncharted grow beyond the PS3," explains Evan Wells. "It would be interesting to see what sort of changes to the design one would make for a portable system. But right now Naughty Dog is purely focused on PS3 development so we can't promise anything from us in the near future."
Would you like Uncharted on your PSP? It would certainly be interesting, although arguably one of the series' biggest strengths is the breathtaking selection of hi-def and lavish environments. That would be quite difficult to capture on the humble PlayStation Portable, but I'd totally be willing to let 'em have a go.

I think he was joking.
Anyway, I have 100% confidence that if Uncharted 2 is getting rave 10/10 reviews it down to two reasons...
1) It's a great game
2) Reviewers have forgotten how to review games and fail to see that only truly groundbreaking games such as Mario64 and Zelda OoT deserve such scores.
Give me Jak 4 on PS3 damn it!
You know they would make a pretty PSP game.
I personally loved Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and can't wait for the sequel.
To me this actually seems like a very pro PS3/PSP thing coming from Jim. Of course Jim really loves his Sony stuff anyways.
Back on topic if this where announced I would be more than willing to continue call the PSPGO pointless and then go out and get a 3000.
I guess I just would feel cheated. Like te decision was made to make a sequel but not put the effort into making HD graphics.
A port of the ps3 versions with lower graphics that could offer those w/o a ps3 but still own a psp could be nice though.
("PS3 officially has it’s a killer-app and a million tears are shed by 360 fanboys." Seriously?)
Is it ok if I make the assumption that you're not a ps3 owner but own a 360?
I disagree with that statement, "PS3 officially has it’s a killer-app and a million tears are shed by 360 fanboys." Mainly because as a new IP, when I looked at this game I thought, "Meh, just another game that looks unspectacular and probably appeals to a less hardcore-gamer audience." I waited over a year to finally pick this up and man, was I completely wrong. The point I'm getting at is, 360 owners(who don't own a ps3) won't shed tears because they seriously don't even know what they're missing. If Sony had lost the IP though, I can bet millions of tears would have been shed by those who had played the original.
That statement was taken right from one of the 100% reviews for Uncharted 2. Seemed so ridiculous that I couldn't take anything about the review seriously after reading it.
I'm not belittling the game - Uncharted 2 will be an amazing experience for many people. But having played the first one and come away unimpressed, the reviews I've read so far aren't convincing me that it deserves the 97% "average" currently shown on Metacritic.
However, Uncharted 2 seems much more interesting. If it has a few original ideas, for once.
Oh dear, I'm already wayy too excited about this. :D
I couldn't disagree more with TheDreadHawk's statement about ripping off anything whatsoever from any game. The game is just well made and the people at Naughty Dog deserve credit for how much they put into the game. Not to mention the first game was a complete experience. After you beat every challenge in the game you even get to see countless behind-the-scenes videos and actually see their quality of development. I seriously hope this IP is around for a good long time.
Perhaps it's homage or something, but it still bothers me a bit. It may be a good game, but I beg to differ. Like I said, Uncharted 2 actually looks... different. At least to me anyway. So there's hope for me liking it yet!
I can understand your pov. I agree the play mechanics are very similiar to Gears, but I really don't think they necessarily ripped anything off from them. From their behind-the-scenes vids, I got the impression that they built the system from the ground up, tweaking it more and more until they got it right.
As for comparing it to Tomb Raider. Man I hated the gameplay in that game. It's really hard to say that just because they both shoot guns and explore ruins by jumping on ledges and whatnot makes it a rip-off though. While I admit it may not "improve" upon the mechanics of Gears, and possibly Tomb Raider though I would have to play recent Tomb Raider games to know for sure, I feel it really didn't have to. I felt the game had perfect gameplay. Small examples were like when he grabs a ledge and depending how he hits the ledge, he'll grab it differently, versus the old Tomb Raider system where you had to make every jump in essentially the same way.
The Indiana Jones comparison is of course prevalent, but seriously, I loved Indiana Jones. Who doesn't? And not only that, but it's hands down better than the most recent Indiana Jones imo, and more on par with the earliest movies.
I would have to say it shoots like Gears along with a similar cover system, that perhaps Gears did better overall.
It platforms better than Tomb Raider, and perhaps on of the best I've ever played.
Nate Drake explores ancient ruins like Indiana Jones, and is a cool believable guy as Indiana Jones was. However, I think all the comparisons end there. Everyone like I said is entitled to opinions, I for one though thought this game was very underrated. To compare it to a game that came out around the same time, Bioshock, I think they both should have recieved equal if not reversed praise. I was very let down from Bioshock, despite it being a good game. I'd go as far as to say that Bioshock was one of the most overrated games I've ever played fully(twice). I may just be in a minority group though on both sides of these 2 games.
ok, well since u put it that way, then gears of war is a rip-off of KILL.SWITCH, because it was that game that first implemented a cover and shoot system, if you were too young to remember, child
Too young to remember a game that came out just over 5 years ago?... hmmm
First game I remember with a cover system was MGS2. And so once again we have Metal Gear Solid responsible for more gaming ingenuity than most game combined. Unless of course someone can think of an earlier example? GoldenEye 007!? Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire!? HMMMMMM
heh jk, but seriously, anyone remember the first cover system game? Or am I right that it's MGS2?
These rip off arguments are so lame. Just because someone uses an idea that was well received before doesn't mean it is a "rip off." Imagine if platformers weren't developed after Mario Bros., for fear a being a rip off. Or RPG's after Dragon Warrior, etc. Not everything has to be innovative and brand new.
Somehow I think you missed the sarcasm I intended before. But, somehow I'm going to resist commenting on the childishness of your closing.
Anyway, I think it could be good on PSP, but I have mixed feelings about it. I honestly get annoyed about a lot of games on portable systems thinking how much I'd rather be playing it on a larger screen. I guess you can at least hook the PSP up to your screen. I'd kind of like to see something similar to the GBA player for the DS, or similar video out capability. Of course the graphics wouldn't look so good blown up, but hey, you can't have it all.
I caught it, and yea I agree with your staement completly. Someone once said good artists borrow from other artists and make it their own, and great artists steal from other artists and makes it their own. Take it however you will, but Uncharted delivered on every front for me.
Back on topic with a portable Uncharted. If Naughty Dog is reading this, personally I think that though it might be great, I don't see it as a great idea. I see it as hurting the franchise by over-saturating the market if anything. At least for now. So good call for you on waiting to develop for a good while.
Yes.
