Naughty Dog has announced on its blog that it'll be getting a studio upgrade soon.
On March 1, the Santa Monica-based studio will be shifting its space no more than 500 feet away from its current studio, which the developer has been at for six years. The "killer new studio" will give the naughty dogs more space, and "significant upgrades," presumably to work on Jak & Daxter for the PlayStation 3. Right!?!? Please?
Naughty Dog has posted images of its new space on its Flickr account, along with a pretty awesome commemorative piece of art work (seen above), suitable for desktop wallpaper.
Congratulations on the new space, guys; after shipping an award-winning game as good as Uncharted 2, you deserve it. Invite me by sometime, okay? To see Jak & Daxter on the PS3, of course.
Naughty Dog is moving! [Naughty Dog]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Kinda sucks that your old stats are useless, but understandable considering half would get unlocked as soon as you jumped on the network. Either way cool beans on the new place.
Of course I meant maps.
It is cool though that in your personal options you can choose to play between regular or DLC. So much simpler.
I tried out the multiplayer and don't think I'm much of a fan, but I would kill for some single player DLC...
Show us something new. There are plenty of games that do what JaD was trying to do, and they often do it better.
If they listened to all of you guys at the beginning of the PS3's life we wouldn't have Uncharted!
Now, in the arena of "first-party PS2 platformers", Sly Cooper was where it was at. I could go for another one of those right now
You and I think quite alike my friend. I'd give a kidney for Sly 4.
Nice picture, by the way.
Too kiddy for you, moron? Uncharted 2 was pretty nice, but Uncharted 1 was dull as hell. I still don't like the characters of Uncharted (or the lackluster-30-on-metacritic-summer-blockbuster-movie story) so I wouldn't mind seeing the more interesting characters from Jak return, but everyone seems too interested in the crappy Sahara-style, testosterone-geared nature of Uncharted to appreciate things that actually deviate from the norm.
In reality, you're the one opposed to new ideas when you support titles like Uncharted. Not saying that Uncharted 2 didn't deserve the reviews it received (its gameplay, afterall, was FANTASTIC!) but the art design, narrative, and characterizations were dull summer movie copy-pastas that should not be revisited by Naughty Dog, IMO.
While I would take pretty much anything Naughty Dog gives me, Uncharted 2 is a pretty great game. It's not given it's praise because of originality, it's praised because it does everything it wants to do damn near perfectly. There have been many games that come up with a unique idea, but stumble along the way. Heavy Rain is an example of this. It had an interesting idea and concept behind it, but its execution of that wasn't the best in the world. Uncharted takes and try tries its best to perfect them. So in reality, games like Uncharted 2 don't hold the gaming industry back, it, hopefully, encourages devs to try and perfect their innovative ideas instead of having a good idea, but poor execution.
As for comapring Uncharted to movies remember this: Uncharted is a GAME and NOT a MOVIE.
But in the end, Uncharted has achieved something that not a WHOLE lot of works can do in their respective media: pull everything off damn near, if not completely, perfectly.
As someone who literally finished Uncharted 2 last night, I couldn't disagree with you more.
Like a bad movie? Are you kidding me? The story was nothing to write home about, sure, but my God, Nathan Drake is one of the most memorable and likeable protagonists in videogame history. The dialog and banter between him and Sully had me literally laughing out loud at times (my wife thinks I'm a dork), and the writing overall in this GAME is a hell of a lot stronger than even most GOOD movies can claim (not that the two should even be compared).
I'm not sure we played the same game... are you sure you weren't accidentally playing Deadly Premonition instead?
I agree, mostly. The real problem I have with Uncharted is, again, with the narrative and characterizations. Naughty Dog has the gameplay nailed, I'd give Uncharted 2 top marks (Uncharted 1 had a few too many problems outside of narrative); I also agree that Uncharted 2 wasn't at all like a movie (as far as gameplay is concerned), but when you take a scalpel to narrative, the unoriginality rears its ugly head and Uncharted 2 doesn't hold up so well. I feel that it was the exact opposite situation for J&D and the Jak games; good narrative and characterizations, but minor faults in gameplay.
I think the problem is inherently with the overall concept of the narrative, and not Naughty Dog's ability to convey a story.
I agree with you. I just finished Uncharted 2 last night as well and it was great. Will probably replay it on Crushing after I replay the first one.
I'm not sure what Naughty Dog's going to release next, but whether it's Uncharted 3, a new Jak or something entirely new, I think I'm optimistic about it.
Wow are YOU an ass!
I liked the JaD games fine (even enjoyed Daxter on PSP), but the Ratchet and Clank games for PS3 (Especially A Crack in Time which was GREAT) give me all of the 3D shooter/platforming I need. And they're more entertaining and funny to boot.
Naughty Dog is obviously a very talented developer, and now I'd like to see something awesome and new. With their handle on PS3 graphics, I really couldn't think of much that would be more boring to see than the JaD universe AGAIN which, honestly, is pretty damn similar to the look of the RaC universe.
Basically, I think going back to JaD would be a step back for them and would in no way push them creatively.
They have a game of the year under their belts now, which means they should have the freedom to take a chance at something new.
I'm not an ass, you just take the internet far too seriously! Good post nonetheless. Your response made me loller.
"Significant Upgrades", eh? Sounds awesome, a new Jak and Daxter would be a welcome addition indeed.
They were headed in the right direction with the first game, then totally tossed all that great platforming out the window for some cornball badass gun-toting, hackneyed time travel, and lame goatees.
