National Chicken Month, Guitar Hero 5 both in September photo

On the game’s official site, Activision has confirmed a September 1 release date for the upcoming Guitar Hero 5. For those keeping track, that’s eight days before that other music game, The Beatles Rock Band, is scheduled to hit shelves.

Along with the release date, Activision is holding a contest, the winner of which will get five tickets per concert for five concerts of his or her choice. Winning involves answering a few questions, surfing the Internet, and (we presume) being really damned lucky, because millions of people will submit the same answers you do.

It’s interesting that Activision is promoting and pushing Guitar Hero 5 so early, especially in light of the fact that rumors and retail listings have placed the previously-announced Guitar Hero Van Halen in the August-range for its retail release. We’ve yet to see a single screenshot or been given detailed information on that title, yet we already know a slew of information about Guitar Hero 5. Where’s the David Lee Roth love, Activsion?

Also, National Chicken Month, confirmed.

I stopped buying at GH3, Rockband's now the game for me. Too many versions/3-pack dlc, have turned me off since GH3. So Activision take a knee, stop putting out new games weekly, just slow it down and soon you'll see I'll buy a new one, guarantee.

Which reminds me that I lent GH:WT out.

Oh well. They can keep it I guess. After spending £100 on Rock Band's songs... I'm kinda inclined to stick with that, thanks.

Shouldn't that be National Turkey Month? (Just kidding: I'm a Rock Band fanboy, but I have friends who dig the GH series. Poor bastards.)

Will get Guitar Hero 5, but not Van Halen. These artist spin-offs don't have much value compared to the real deal. I got GH Metallica because I like the music, but from a value standpoint you get much less than you got in World Tour. Most notably the songlist is halfed and there's no DLC, which I suspect will be the same in Van Halen and Smash Hits.
