Namco offers downloading PC titles via Facebook for $9.99 a pop photo

When I'm in the mood for Pac-Man, my favorite way to play it is to fire up the Championship Edition, but I can definately see the advantage of being able to fire it up on your computer anytime you get the urge. Namco now offers the option of playing both Pac-Man and Dig-Dug through Facebook, and while the demos are free, there's a catch: actually downloading the game costs $9.99, and you can't play it in your browser.

The comments are pretty brutal, especially the ones for Pac-Man. There's also no Mac version, which certainly isn't going to win any points with those users. Sorry Namco, I think you missed the mark on this one. Better luck next time?

If they intend to make Facebook the platform, why can't you play the games in-browser? The only people who'd want to drop a Hamilton on that are the ones that are on Facebook all the time. It defeats the purpose.

And Pac-Man?! For Christ's sake we can play Starsiege: Tribes and Quake 3 in-browser now.

Why would anyone pay $10 for 20 year old games?

Considering I can probably throw a dart at my screen and hit a free Pac-man clone on Facebook, I think I'll pass.

pay 10 bux for an ancient game, that I've downloaded on almost every multimedia device at least ten times. HELL NO. Who's Namco trying to fool?

FACEBOOK PC-ONLY NON-BROWSER GAME? VANILLA PAC MAN? TEN BUCKS?

I had other words in there but I found they were superfluous. The info alone is ridiculous enough.

More like SCAMCO-BANDAI amirite?

But for serious, people must be really clueless on how they are getting scammed for them to keep doing this. Isn't pacman $5 on XBLA?

TEN DOLLARS for ONE game? You can get Namco Museum for the PC for 20$ or less!
Or just get GameTap... They do have Namco games, right?

Why the fuck not in GOG.com? Also there are free flash adaptations of this game, probably as long.

Do NOT want.

My fellow countrymen, I have something very important to say. I work for the company that has published this game on Facebook, J2Play, not Namco.

I logged on to dtoid tonight, as I often do right before bed, and I was very excited to see something that I created on it. That graphic up there, I made that it's not great, i know, it was a rushed job, but it's mine none the less. If you follow the links to the Facebook application, you'll see my handy-work in every button and piece of text.

I'm not going to get all butthurt about the comments, no one likes the price. But, I do have a question for the community. 1) What price would to pay for this (if anything at all)? And 2) Have any of you given it a shot?

Thank you my friends.

This is one of the dumber ideas I've seen today. $10 for Pacman alone is absolutely retarded. No matter how much you charge for it, I can't imagine ANYBODY would pay for Pacman. Put it up free as a flash and host a couple ads on the same page, jesus.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
