Namco Bandai succeeding on 3DS photo

Despite Nintendo panicking about the 3DS adoption rate and fears of third party abandonment, one company can claim to be doing quite well on the faltering handheld. Namco Bandai has enjoyed considerable success on the 3DS, with solid sales and pleasant profit.

The publisher revealed that overall revenue has risen 108% and that net profit has reached ¥3.25 billion. 3DS was a big part of those accomplishments, with One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP selling 170,000 units, Tales of the Abyss selling 150,000 units and Ridge Racer 3D shifting 90,000 units.

Of course, there's a considerable lack of competition on the system right now, but these numbers are still pretty decent. One can assume that Namco will be supporting Nintendo's handheld for quite some time, and we can all look forward to the insane amounts of DLC!

Makes sense. 3DS owners are so desperate for games to play they'd buy angry wasps and call it awesome if it played on the 3DS.

I want ToA like, now. It's the only 'amazing' game in the Tales series, imo, with the rest just being decent.

It'd be nice if the US got Unlimited Cruise SP. We got the first game for the Wii and it was a surprisingly solid adventure RPG. The 3DS game is both games in one.

But Tales of the Abyss will be good for now.

agreed about the desperation of 3ds owners. For the first month it seemed like every 3ds owner was rabidly praising street fighter 4 as the greatest game of all time and they couldn't get enough of the inferior port. Now people are paying 40 dollars for n64 ports.

Good to hear more third-parties are having some success.

Capcom seems like it has been the most successful out of the third-parties thanks to Street Fighter 4. Also, Despite its controversial blunder with Resident Evil: Mercenaries, the title sold 400k copies.

llort het - "inferior port?" SSF4 3D had better netcode than the console version.

@: the troll: I don't own any ports and I'm happy. I did have sf4 though and it was sooo not inferior. IMO

Ridge Racer is terrific. My only problem with the game is that the best parts are all at the end of the game. It almost seems to be boring and then you break through to expert level and its just amazing

Ridge Racer is pretty awesome. It and DoA are keeping my 3DS busy. And I will promise right here and now to buy each and every Tales game they release here on 3DS, so get to it Namco.

I swear to God the 3DS seems to be nothing but a port/remake machine.

While I agree there aren't a-lot of games for the 3DS it's definitely exaggerated. I have six games already for it. Zelda, Ghost recon and Steel Diver being my favorites. Also I love how everyone bashes Nintendo over remakes, but people jizz their pants every time one of those Hd collections come out.

@Laharl kotnw

those HD collections are several games packed together at a discounted price. The 3ds is taking single games and charging a premium price for them. I know here are going to be improvements, but I find it funny that 3ds owners are going to pay 40 dollars for MGS 3, while other consoles are going to pay 30 dollars for several MGS games.

Also about your favorite games, I don't want to bash your opinion but steel diver and ghost recon are getting mediocre reviews and you can't really fault people for saying that they aren't really significant (especially at 40 dollars)

True, but a ports still a port. Do you honestly expect Konami to be able to fit 3 remastered MGS games on a single cartridge? As someone who's primarily a handheld gamer, I'm pretty excited that i'll be able to play MGS3 on the go.

@the troll: ghost recon got pretty good reviews (averages a b from what I've seen) and was well worth $40. Now I do agree Nintendo is a rehash machine, but let's not blindly hate on stuff.

Yeah...cept Ghost Recon is amazing. The opinion of the writers of the reviews you read were wrong. Simple as that.

Even Steel Diver is pretty good.
