Despite Nintendo panicking about the 3DS adoption rate and fears of third party abandonment, one company can claim to be doing quite well on the faltering handheld. Namco Bandai has enjoyed considerable success on the 3DS, with solid sales and pleasant profit.
The publisher revealed that overall revenue has risen 108% and that net profit has reached ¥3.25 billion. 3DS was a big part of those accomplishments, with One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP selling 170,000 units, Tales of the Abyss selling 150,000 units and Ridge Racer 3D shifting 90,000 units.
Of course, there's a considerable lack of competition on the system right now, but these numbers are still pretty decent. One can assume that Namco will be supporting Nintendo's handheld for quite some time, and we can all look forward to the insane amounts of DLC!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But Tales of the Abyss will be good for now.
ONE PIECEEEE!
Anyways....cool.
agreed about the desperation of 3ds owners. For the first month it seemed like every 3ds owner was rabidly praising street fighter 4 as the greatest game of all time and they couldn't get enough of the inferior port. Now people are paying 40 dollars for n64 ports.
Capcom seems like it has been the most successful out of the third-parties thanks to Street Fighter 4. Also, Despite its controversial blunder with Resident Evil: Mercenaries, the title sold 400k copies.
those HD collections are several games packed together at a discounted price. The 3ds is taking single games and charging a premium price for them. I know here are going to be improvements, but I find it funny that 3ds owners are going to pay 40 dollars for MGS 3, while other consoles are going to pay 30 dollars for several MGS games.
Also about your favorite games, I don't want to bash your opinion but steel diver and ghost recon are getting mediocre reviews and you can't really fault people for saying that they aren't really significant (especially at 40 dollars)
True, but a ports still a port. Do you honestly expect Konami to be able to fit 3 remastered MGS games on a single cartridge? As someone who's primarily a handheld gamer, I'm pretty excited that i'll be able to play MGS3 on the go.
Yeah...cept Ghost Recon is amazing. The opinion of the writers of the reviews you read were wrong. Simple as that.
Even Steel Diver is pretty good.
