[Update: So apparently it is not real. Stupid sexy Voldo!]
Namco Bandai recently pulled an advert for SoulCalibur V after fans complained that it was too offensive. No, it wasn't the magazine page featuring ginormous breasts. It was an poster on Facebook featuring its male equivalent -- a close shot of Voldo's ornate codpiece. Apparently, ludicrously out-of-context sexual imagery is perfectly fine until it involves a penis.
Gotta love that sweet hypocrisy.
By all accounts, the ridiculous ad featuring big boobs (described by myself as resembling two bald men headbutting) still has a green light from gamers and remains in circulation. Poor Voldo's squirmy sausage, however, is just too shocking for the frail sensibilities of the people. So much for equality.
Interestingly, the Japanese written across Voldo's midriff reads, "Curious?" Methinks the gamers doth protest too much.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That is all.
"Sexism? Relax: it's just a video game."
I wonder if it would've had the same response if placed in a magazine like the Ivy ad?
It's still frustrating seeing that kind of response though.
I'd show those guys how to put on a smashing performance!
Isn't it bad enough?
not necessarily in an "urotsukidoji-legend of the overfiend-multiple-pulsating-tentacle" kind of way, a friendly little penis would suffice.
what about a cho-aniki-mmorpg for starters?
Also,spiky penis guard FTW.
What should've been said when the ad campaign was proposed. I mean how do you walk into a room and pitch this?
pitchman: "right, so it's soul calibur yeah? So Tits! Thats it, just Tits!"
Devs: "wait, you just want to put up porn?"
Pitchman: "naw ya'see it'll be tits of the birds from the game. All big, bouncy, maybe even sweaty to so they's shining a bit. That'll sell this game in spades!"
Devs: "that doesn't sound li.."
Pitchman: "don't worry, I know what'you're thinking, you're think 'what about the ladies?' so I says, penis! Just a nice big crotch on the poster for the birds, make em right hit to play, you'll see."
I won't stand for anything less than a massive, throbbing, purple mass that touches the floor.
i'm kind of old-fashioned like that.
oh joy!
(we definitley need more penis and less tea-bagging in games)
(but i wont mind more boobies either)

That said, of all the wangs they could've picked...!
It's just a cut & paste of Voldo's stance from a high quality image that is used as promotional screens for the game. It's not even remotely the same quality or style used in the Ivy ad. Someone is trying to *ahem* yank our chains.
Thanks for proving me accurate once again, Jim.

but really, I appreciate the sexism of males more than of females. though they are both stupid and out of place nearly ALL the time.
and Namco lost much more respect from posting and pulling the male than if they didn't even present it in the first place. and my respect from them was already pretty low with the stupid boob thing.
lastly, use the damn internet for your porn and leave the fighting games for FIGHTING.
Also... what if he gets an erection? I'm not a professional when it comes to penis parameters, but if he's an averagely endowed man, that codpiece doesn't seem quite large enough to contain his full girth. That would be uncomfortable...
