Namco Bandai has five 3DS games, one of them's Pac-Man photo

Namco Bandai has today announced that it has five titles in the works for Nintendo's 3DS. Yes, one of them is Pac-Man. Yes, one of them is Ridge Racer. No, Namco Bandai is not keen on surprises. In fact, all five of Namco's offerings seem to be treading a familiar path, with Gundam and Dragon Ball games also on the way. Enough of the cynicism though, here's the full list:

  • Ridge Racer
  • Pac-Man & Galaga
  • Gundam Franchise (working title)
  • Dragon Ball Franchise (working title)
  • Super Robot Franchise (working title)

Seems everybody's jumping on the 3DS bandwagon, which is perfectly okay with me. I don't think I've ever seen so much support for a handheld right out of the starting gate. Sounds like the 3DS will launch with a fantastic library, and this is all before Ubisoft brings us yet another Imagine game!

TOKYO, JAPAN – NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. today announced it has five titles in development for Nintendo 3DSTM, the recently announced portable gaming device from Nintendo Co., Ltd. which employs stereogram technology.

With final title names, detailed game information and release dates to be revealed at a later date, the five titles in development are as follows:

RIDGE RACERTM (working title)

The unstoppable hit series is back with all its trademark exhilaration and brand new stereogram features.

PAC-MANTM & GALAGATM (working title)

Two timeless gaming icons return, totally reworked for the Nintendo 3DSTM and including all the classic game modes.

Gundam® Franchise (working title)

All new title in the Gundam series with new gameplay systems designed for the stereogram technology.

Dragon Ball® Franchise (working title)

Dragon Ball kicks into 3D with all new features and gameplay designed for the Nintendo 3DSTM hardware.

Super Robot Franchise (working title)

Brand new title in the series with new game systems and gameplay designed to exploit the stereogram technology.

NAMCO BANDAI Games plans to further extend its presence in the 3D gaming arena with its ongoing program of research and development. Further information and updates will be made available on the official NAMCO BANDAI Games websites.

“2010 will be remembered as the year that 3D technologies finally became available on a consumer level, a breakthrough that NAMCO BANDAI Games has anticipated with its significant research and investment in the field over recent years,” said Shin Unozawa, Vice President, NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. “We are convinced of the potential of the new stereogram technology on which the hardware is based, and we intend to make full use of it to provide fresh new experiences which continue to surprise and excite our customers in the way we have been doing for many years. We are looking forward to announcing more details in the near future.”

lack of idolm@ster is depressing. namco bandai shouldn't have to play it this safe with their line up.

Please for the love of MacGuyver, do NOT use the 3d effect on either of these classics. I personally would love to see an entry in the Budakai series long as they model is after TWO and not THREE. Oh, before I forget...

RIIIIIIIIIDDGEEEEEEE RACER!

Also even though this list of games looks very boring, "super robot franchise" sounds like the best title ever. No working on that title is required namco

Pac-Man on 3DS, WOW, Mind-blowing, this game will be a system seller and game changer in the games industry. Every major software publisher in world will wake up and sense climatic change when Namco-Bandai release Pac-Man on the 3DS.
In fact other publisherS won't dare release any AAA titles in the same month that Pac-Man on the 3DS (I term it the "MW2 effectism"). I've heard alreadly the released date for Metal Gear Solid: Rising has been push back for fear of Pac-Man being released on 3DS in the same week!

People will remember this day forever and ask where were you when Pac-Man was released on 3DS?

I think I need a ciggie to calm down...

It's hard to go wrong with Pac Man, assuming the word "World" isn't found anywhere in the title.

Not a spectacular line-up, but its Namco Bandai, so what can you really expect? Its certainly isn't no Ubisoft's 3DS lunch line-up, that's for sure!

I'm starting to wonder if a lot of the 3DS's massive launch library isn't going to include a whole mess of mediocre and uninspired games that have been rushed out to cash in on the 3D craze. Even after you sort through the obvious filler, and there is a ton of that, some of those big name titles might just be 3D novelty games. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

the way i see nintendo capitalizing on the 3DS is to remake every game that was on the DS into a 3d game. only now you have to RE buy it again just so you can experience it in 3d.

I'm super happy to see Ridge Racer's coming out. The one that launched on the PSP was one of the few games for like a year and a half that was worth playing on the damn thing.
