Namco Bandai has thrown its full support behind Nintendo's upcoming handheld, the 3DS. Stating that it could be one of the most important launches in console history, the publisher has touted its strong title lineup, including Ridge Racer and another Pac-Man game.
"We are very confident of the Nintendo 3DS. We also have a strong line up of titles, including Ridge Racer 3D, Duel Pen Sports and Pac Man/Galaga," boasted UK marketing boss Lee Kirton. "We see it as one of the most important launches in gaming history and we're very confident of all of our new titles."
Nintendo isn't one to fail a launch, and I imagine that the "3D without glasses" schtick is going to really help it get mainstream attention. What do you reckon, though? Do you think the 3DS will beat Nintendo's previous systems, or will it fail for some bizarre reason?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Us gamers know the score, what with improved hardware, glasses-free 3D, improved wireless and a thumbstick, but I think the majority of non-gamer DS owners will look at the 3DS and think it's just a revision, rather than a new generation. It looks similar and it has mostly the same features.
That's the only reason I can see it paling in comparison to the DS.

Make a 3D Geometry Wars. We need this.
so fucking cool.
3ds is ok, but that beak is awesome.
Aside from that, that's a great toucan, I want to ride it!
Their games are the most lackluster ones in the launch window, so its ironic that they're the ones saying this. If anyone should be boasting about their launch plans its Capcom. They have two games that not only look great, but they play great as well. Plus they have good 3D implementation and a crap ton of online features to. With worldwide online play, as well as SteetPass features Super Street Fighter IV and online co-op muliplayer in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries. You can't ask for much better support than that. Its not about quantity Namco, its about quality!
NGP for me anyways. Games for the 3DS don't interest me just yet.
Pros:
It's a DS, the most successful anything in the history of gaming.
As long as it runs Pokemon (which is still a game that you could happily play on GameBoy) it will do well.
Maybe it will see a port of Monster Hunter.
Cons:
The price is getting up into the "I could just buy a console" range.
Nintendo could address issues with the 3D screen the following year or two, ostracizing everyone who bought the first run of the device... much like the GBA -> GBAsp.
The DS itself was badly designed for usability from the get-go because of either/or features... two screens, stylus vs buttons... and the 3DS introduces tilt controls vs ease of watching the 3D display. These issues are going to come to light if the 3DS is going to be expected to play a lot of "modern" 3D action games.
EXCEPT that I may have read somewhere that while being tilted, Galaga disables 3D effects. If it's true, and it's really Galaga implementation, I salute them as I feel dumb for not realizing how simple of a solution this is.
On the lack of titles, Nintendo's been clear on leaving plenty of room for third parties to stablish a footing on the console. It's hard to compete with any Nintendo first party outing, and by refraining from releasing their big guns already they allow third parties to have some breathing room while making sure there's something to turn to should sales decrease.
I'm really getting it for down the line when Mario, Mario Kart, and Paper Mario come out.
