Mythic president tells gold sellers in WAR to 'go to hell' photo

Mythic president Mark Jacobs knows the crippling effect that gold sellers can have on an in-game economy. He also knows the effect that gold spammers can have on a community with their constant “shouts” to the entire game world. That’s why Jacobs has already taken a hard-line stance in Warhammer Online and banned at least 400 people either selling or advertising the sale of in-game gold since this Saturday.

In a blog posting Jacobs said that he “hates gold sellers/spammers” with every fiber of his being and will continue to “ban these jerks like crazy” as the need arises. He also revealed that WAR has a dedicated team to seek gold sellers out early and remove them from the game.

Gold sellers won’t be able to convince Jacobs to give a blind eye to the behavior with bribes. To his credit, Jacobs official response to such an offer will always be, “Go to hell.” Which is the same response that I give to anyone that offers me a drink with whip cream.

A man has to stand for something - even if it's delicious.

After playing a week I don't even see gold as having too large an effect in the game. Cool gear and items could be had through questing both solo and PQ's.

its funny cause while youre playing a message will pop up that basically says "we banned some people just now" but its written like one of the orc is saying "dey bashed der 'eads in gud" or like the elves "none can hide from the phoenix king" or something.

Lol, ya. I love it. They add more character to an already very interesting world, even when banning gold sellers.

I was pretty surprised to see them out in droves on Day 1, with constant tells and shouts. For some reason my ignore list wouldn't block them either. Very happy to hear they are being banned. Its especially silly when you look at how gold isn't a driving factor in the game as it was in WoW. At least not yet anyway.

I report them every time they pester me, with very satisfying results >:-)

They always ban the gold farmers but never the buyers.. It's supply and Demand. We get it, gold farming is bad, why not take another common sense stances like.. everyone should have clean water..

It's pretty amazing, they've been announcing the bans in game with little pop-ups. One said something like "Karl Franz has decreed that 'Adsfasdf' and his band of villains be burnt at the stake for soliciting faulty currency."

6 of those popped up throughout the day yesterday, one of which about an hour after me and my guildies got a spam from the guy. Pretty impressive.

I reported a gold seller and saw a popup myself within the hour informing my High Elf that "The Phoenix Throne shall never tolerate <Goldspammer>'s trespasses." My love for WAR has increased.

Just want to know how the hell they can scrape together the gold to run a functioning operation on friggin' launch day.

In some others boards a suggestion is being bandied about that could make goldsellers being banned even more fun. Public executions of the goldseller characters. Maybe even allow the top scorers of the day's scenarios be the ones to permanently "kill" off the goldseller character.

All banhammers should be that classy.

Could someone explain to me why buying in-game currency is frowned upon? I don't play online games, so this concept is entirely foreign to me. I don't see any harm if someone would rather pay a little cash instead of grind for hours and hours for a little scratch.
