A new Sony video has popped up on Youtube and sparked an avalanche of rudderless speculation from rabid fans. The live-action trailer contains elements of various videogames, including LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid and Twisted Metal.
Some of the references are incredibly subtle (a ghostly Kratos-esque apparition has been spotted faintly flashing up right at the end, for example) but they don't seem to point to any one game in particular.
Given the broad spectrum of references, I'm guessing that this will be hardware-related, and that some big PlayStation Vita news is on the cards. I could be completely wrong, but could a Western release date for Sony's handheld be arriving? We'll find out for sure next week.
In the meantime, you can play "Where's Waldo?" with all the videogame references in the above video. How many can you spot?
There was already a Kevin Butler video to kick off the "Long Live Play" campaign, so I don't think that's it. It's probably the start of the Vita marketing.
Wow ... I honestly don't have a clue. It could be Vita related but it said PS3 at the end. I also don't know about it being an announcement of MGS5 or something because what would be the point in having Twisted Metal there?
This is a mainstream campaign for people who haven't heard of Vita yet. Lots of people haven't heard of Vita yet. I'd say over 70% of PS3 owners. That's my guess.
I don't think it will be anything niche or for in-the-know gamers, juding by the budget. This is going to TV.
Maybe Sony's new tablet launch? It will apparently be able to play PSP/PSN games. The tablet has apparently released but the second clamshell design tablet doesn't seem to have a release date as yet....
I would have said Vita but there are hints to lots of stuff that they would have been pimping if they were for the Vita. I guess Home? Maybe Home on Vita? It seems like a place where all the videogame people are hanging out, maybe it’s some Mii/Xbox avatar type thingy.
This could very well be related to PS Home. Last I heard, there was a huge redesign coming down the pipes this year.
For some reason, the fact it says Long Live Play makes me think otherwise though. I'm going to go ahead and put my money down and say a totally new service is incoming.
Yeah, I know, but they obviously put a lot of money into making that trailer, so has got to be something big. I'm probably wrong, but I think I'll take the long shot this time.
Hmm, yeah, I bet it is about home and how great it will soon be...but also that you will be charged in some different way now. I am not confident, but hopefully they have heard the virtually unanimous feedback that it is boring and sucks and such and have therefore improved on it HUGELY. We'll see next week!!!
SHIT!! What if it means you can play EVERY SINGLE PS3 game you own right on your Vita somehow??? That would be the ultimate ultimate ultimate reason to get a Vita ASAFP!!!!
aw I didn't see shit, except maybe the sword from FFXIII mentioned above but that's all, there's just that weird thing at the end under the date something ghostly, is that the Kratos?
You know... it could always be for cross game chat. A whole bunch of game stuff, all in the same room, open up a big door, and a bunch of loud talking can be heard.
Definitely something to do with time travel. If you look at all the money in the money plate, its all different kinds from different time periods it looks like.
Also the weapons are all different obviously... hmm
