Myst DS is coming Fall 2007 photo

Every time I see a screen from a MYST game (especially the first), I get a little tingle of nostalgia and want to boot it up and play it all again from the very beginning. The series made a big impact on me as a gamer, being the first to really nail that style of completely immersive enviroment and spawning countless imitations afterwards. I got the tingle times ten as I read this article with Manny Granillo, executive producer for MYST DS. I can't imagine wanting to replay the classic title more, and on my favorite little portable too!

MYST DS will engage the touch screen, likely allowing players to do things they might have wished for back in the day. Granillo gives a bit more info on the subject:

We are adding several elements that will support the player as they journey through MYST. Features such as Map generation and Note Pad are but a couple of the unique tools available to the MYST adventurer on the DS.

Neat. I'm interested to see how use of the touch screen may enhance the game, as it's really done a lot for other DS titles. Sadly, there are no plans at the moment to adapt Riven to DS, but perhaps if this title does well fans of the series may see other installments. Some of us simply refuse to accept that the adventure genre is dead, and as one of those hopefuls, I would like to see this release fuel that fire and perhaps draw even more innovative titles to the DS. I know, I should go back to my fanciful world of wishes, unicorns and twirling pixies.

[Thanks to Blindside Dork for the tip!]

I'm so excited about this! How did I miss this was coming out?

Myst should port well to the DS. Now if only they'd put Space Quest on there...

I have never played a single myst game but i did take a toor of Cyans studio's and it seems as if their fanbase is more hardcore than any other games. its crazy.
And even the Miller brothers love myst, they have an elevator that goes i think to 2 different floors, but there is like 20 buttons and the other 18 are in duni.

I've got about six copies of this laying around in my possession. I don't think I've ever bought a single one myself. They just kind of materialize on their own.

But if it means more adventure gaming love for the DS, I'll buy it. Even if I absolutely loath widget rotating puzzles.

As cool as this is, I'd rather see Cosmic Osmo make its way to DS.

God I fucking hated Myst. When I was younger, my mother would take up precious Doom time on the ol PC playing this game.
Now she's going to be borrowing my DS all the time to play the reincarnation of Myst. I guess it's okay until Dragon Quest comes out...

If that's an unlock, they've just sold a copy. ^^ (Though I do play it on GameTap)

The game did have a well done port to Pocket PC a while ago (read a review, reviewer said it was good), so I'm betting this will work as well, or better. And yeah, I need to play these games, I had a PC that could run them back during their release, but I just never got around to buying/playing them.

I've played and beaten 4 games in the series(URU never caught my fancy). It's good to see a new generation having the option of experiencing one of the most engaging stories ever made. Sad, once you've beaten the game, it takes less than 5 minutes to beat it a second time.
