Myst coming to Nintendo DS photo

Cyan Worlds' Miller brothers brought the original Myst game to life over a decade ago on PC, and since then the series has been passed around between a few developers and publishers. Half a dozen games later, the original game is being re-released again, this time for the Nintendo DS. The point and click adventure game should be an easy conversion for the DS's stlyus gameplay, but Midway Games has even added a few bonuses to entice fans to explore the islands once again:

All source code has been re-written specifically for Nintendo DS performance and gameplay.
A complete all NEW Age, the RIME AGE, to explore and uncover mysteries on DS
NEW sounds, effects, and video clips added throughout. All newly created graphic sets for the added RIME AGE specifically done for the DS
Newly re-mastered Video and audio
Save Multiple games for various players.

No release date has been announced yet, although Midway's hoping to finish it by November. If you're new to the Myst series, you can check out the full press release after the jump

Release Date: Nov-2007
Age Rating: PEGI 3+
Platform: Nintendo DS
Genre: Adventure

Myst is an immersive experience that draws you in and won't let you go. You enter a unique setting, venturing alone to varied times and places, the worlds that compose Myst. There are no instructions, and you encounter no living beings but soon realize your actions may help individuals who are somehow trapped in a parallel dimension.

You don't so much play Myst, as experience it. Of course you must solve a multitude of puzzles, mazes, and problems, but Myst's principal attractions are its environment and the underlying intrafamily drama that unfolds as you explore.

Unlike most adventure games, Myst offers no inventory, no death, and no dialogue. Although puzzles don't seem to have much direct connection to the game, they share a commonality. They take on many forms but follow a consistent thread. Some puzzles are very challenging, even obtuse, creating an odd paradox: many buy Myst, but few complete it. It is immensely popular, but most nonadventurers quit in frustration. Fortunately, Myst's popularity has spawned several online sites for hints, walk-throughs, and even saved games .

The nonlinear gameplay of Myst lets players go anywhere at any time. Unlike other adventure games, Myst has no inventory, and players never die. Incredibly detailed, Myst offers more depth than any other CD-ROM game to date.

Features:
  • All source code has been re-written specifically for Nintendo DS performance and gameplay.
  • A complete all NEW Age, the RIME AGE, to explore and uncover mysteries on DS
  • NEW sounds, effects, and video clips added throughout. All newly created graphic sets for the added RIME AGE specifically done for the DS
  • Newly re-mastered Video and audio
  • Save Multiple games for various players.

It's been a very long time since I played this game. I never played any of the others either. The DS is built for this type of game though. They seriously should be putting some of the old Sierra click-through adventures and the Lucasarts ones on the DS. We need some funny adventure games. I want me some Leisure Suit Larry DS.

Myst and I, we didn't get along so well. Maybe it's time for another chance.

D

Neither did we. Maybe because I was too young. We had it for the Sega Saturn.

I'll gladly try it again.

I nevere played the original but I have been looking for a nice point and click adventure game.

a The Dig & Full Throttle 2 pack would've been the best option though but beggars can't be choosers!

I tried to play the original game about a month ago. I guess new computers are too good for this game? All I know is that it looked terrible and was almost unplayable. I do remember that Myst (when it worked on my old PC) was the bee's knees, though I wasn't mature enough to be able to solve many of the puzzles back then.

Excellent.

And hopefully this'll be a gateway to getting more point and clicks going on the DS. If the original fanbase come to his and get it a big number of sales, we should be laughing.

Hope they port Riven eventually....I had a lot of fun with it, but having to change discs like every 10 minutes was annoying.

Can't wait for Myst.

Hm...I should go pick up a new copy for my Mac, since I doubt the original copy will work. Or if it does work, it will need Sheepsaver with OS 9, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get System Shock (for Mac) to work in Sheepsaver. (It installs fine, it's just very choppy and sluggish; any help would be appreciated!)

I imported a copy of Myst for the PSP last year. It's fun but with the DS stylus I think it'll be a better portable experience so I'll buy this when it comes out and we totally need a Lucasarts classics collection: Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, The Dig, Full Throttle, Zak McCracken, etc...hell I'd be happy with Loom on the DS.

I will never understand why more old-school adventure games aren't released on the DS (or Wii for that matter). The game is done - all they have to do is tweak it and port the engine.
