MySpace aiming to be a gaming platform photo

MySpace may be getting its arse handed to it by the likes of Facebook and Twitter, but the former king of social networks believes it has an ace up its sleeve -- it's going to get into games. Those in charge of the site that popularized annoying sparkly .gifs believes that MySpace will grow into a prominent online gaming platform.

"MySpace is and will be more in the future a gaming platform, a space for people to meet and play games," says News Corp digital boss Jonathan Miller. "None of the traditional media conglomerates are also significant videogame players, so to speak, and I think that that's the missing piece of the equation, particularly when you see how much time is spent playing games online. If you look at the big activities online, games right now is number three. Communications, search, games. So it's clearly going to be a major focus."

I believe he missed out "porn," but MySpace's camwhores are practically filling that role already.

Would you pay attention to MySpace if it tried to become a viable gaming platform? Would such plans succeed? Considering the fact that MySpace can't even seem to keep its sh*t together as a social network ("Unexpected Errors" became a misnomer when I used maintain a page), I dread to think how those in charge would handle online games.

This must not be allowed to happen. After the crap "games" that Facebook wound up getting, if MySpace is gonna be geared towards a serious gaming platform, I can only fear that it'll ruin games for everyone who actually likes them. =\

People haven't grown out of myspace yet? The only reason I even look at myspace is due to the fact that most bands don't even have websites anymore.

Frankly I'd like the gaming/app noise to stay off of services like facebook and twitter. I use those services to keep current on what my peers are doing, bejeweled scores are not what I want to read about. For casual games, I'd much rather use my iPhone, which I can always access, instead of browser flash games that are usually blocked on corporate networks.

all myspace needs to do is lift the ban on nudity. Right there and myspace will be back on top!

Lmfao.

Poor MySpace,it died as soon as Facebook came around in popularity. That's too bad, since Facebook sucks for music, but whatever, it's just another social networking site that'll die one day just like Facebook and Twitter will.

Sucks they have to do everything they can to keep people coming back, but that's how this shit works. Maybe someone from LiveJournal should call them up and let them know.

Ugh. NO. Anything that gives that nazi jerk Rupert Murdoch more power makes me want to go more and more on a murdering rampage. Just remember that he's responsible for all the terrible things Fox News did.

@Diverse, it's not a true Blingee image unless you have a dancing Snoop animation in there.

And yes, I would pay attention to MySpace trying to be a viable gaming platform, all the way to its inevitable failure in its attempt following shortly after.

Hah. Nice header image. MySpace is certainly garbage, and not only because of the people who keep up pages there.

FAZBAK 4 LVEZ..... YEAH!

NOW!

This has apsolutly no relevance to this post. BUT! Mr. Sterling I just saw this now (2am Sunday 26th) and hopefully I am the first to inform you. But your all time favorite game is now 50% off on steam. That masturbating motion you do when you had your first hands on demo with Bayonetta back at E3 will be three times as fast with the info I am about to give you...... Velvet Assassin is the game I am talking about and you could pick up another copy for just 24.99.

I stopped caring about MySpace a long time ago. I don't even really like Facebook either.

Remember all that drama over Myspace during the 90's? Good times they were, now not that much.

I hate Myspace and Facebook. People I don't know come up to me and tell me I'm the only kid at my whole school who doesn't have Facebook, Twitter or Myspace. I don't think they realise how proud that makes me!

@Pascus46

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT! I had forgotton about that lump of crap!

When i read this i pictured something kinda like HOME for the ps3, only more basic.
i think it would be a major success if they created a huge MMO project similar to home only on a city scale.

make sence?

I'm assuming they are going to just copy Facebook and have a bunch of crappy flash games or whatever. So there's no need to care really.

But if they copied Raptr instead, with their existing user base, brand name and marketing reach, that could be interesting. I'd like to see exactly what my friends are playing across platforms at any given second. At least it would be good as a novelty for a while.

The only thing useful about Myspace is public band promotion. Everything else is a joke.

Some of the problems that plague Failspace are starting to trickle into Facebook...mainly random cam whores trying to get me to pay to see their fantastically ho hum breast whereas I can see a variety of breasts for free with a with our friend Google Image Search; not to mention the mere fact that the internet was essentially created as to spread porn far and wide little if any costs to you, the viewer at home.
