Hold on. Let me get out my lighter fluid and my large fan because I'm about to douse some fanboy flames in the stuff then fan them until they're miles high. I know some of you had to be wondering which system would sell more of the most popular game EVAR, and now we have that answer. Sony fanboys, you lost. Xbox 360 copies of the game outsold PS3 copies by a ratio of 2-to-1.
Now, these numbers aren't official, but they do come from the Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, Dennis Durkin. At the BMO Capital Markets Digital Entertainment Conference in New York, the probably very rich man said, "Initial feedback from retailers is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 [on Xbox 360] has outsold the PS3 2:1.” After lighting a cigar with a $100 bill he then went on to point out that Tuesday, Nov. 10, the day Modern Warfare 2 launched, was the day that the Xbox Live record for most users online at once was broken with over 2 million users.
Burn, fanboy flames, burn.
(Note: If I didn't enjoy being called unfair and biased so much I might mention that official numbers won't be known for a few weeks now, and it's very likely this could change.)

Alas. Forza 3 shall hold me out for a while regardless.
Anyway, it makes sense to me. I'd assume more people have 360s than PS3s.
In before:
* shit storm
* Sony Defense Force
* Xbox apologists
* overall nerd-rage
Besides, the PS3 still has KZ2 and Uncharted 2 and Demon Souls to play as far as recent games. The 360 hasn't had a big release in a while so they were all chomping at the bit to play this more than anyone.
So sick of the sales discussions. So sick of fanboys. So sick of gamers posing as journalists posing as analysts.
Where's the post discussing how much fun you had with the game. Wouldn't it be nice if for every "news" posting about controversy or sales info, there was at least one about people actually enjoying the game?
Next time Sony, get headsets in each PS3 box. It might not seem like much, but counts for a lot, to both devs and gamers. Asking gamers to buy them as extras is what's killing the PS3 from being consistent enough in this vital area. And if you want MAG to work as best as possible, it would help a lot.
Wrong. It's actually due to the fact that the 360 released a year before the PS3. Due to the one year head start the 360 received, there is roughly a 2:1 ratio of 360's to PS3's out there. And how much more did MW2 sell on the 360?
Yep, you guessed it. A 2:1 ratio. Yeah, that's also known as logic. Use it.
Also double the twelve year olds playing it.
I'm curious as to see the numbers for the PC version, as it was an overpriced and overgimped piece of garbage.
rrod
wii is for kids
Sony has Uncharted 2, and I'm sure they'd rather see ppl buying that over MW2.
Are you sure wait till Final Fantasy 13 launch in Japan, Europe, and U.S. because the ratio scale will change drastically.
But feel free to keep claiming those who don't drink the same Kool-Aid™ as you don't/can't use logic.
no, that sounds like a terrible read.
True I didn't own one until the Slim's debuted but that's neither here nor there.
@ Drakebgard
The best selling games on both systems tend to be shooters, more often than not. That's just the game climate that we're living in these days. I'd take an RPG or a adventure game over a shooter 9 times out of 10, but that's not really the average 360 or PS3 fan's way of thinking. Not that there is anything wrong with that. A good shooter can be a lot of fun.
Or who knows, maybe it's the whole, "well my friends play it on the 360, so I need to as well" mindset? I know for a fact that if I had both a PS3 and 360, I'd still buy the 360 version just because MW2 would be boring to play without friends.
"True I didn't own one until the Slim's debuted but that's neither here nor there."
Why say something if you want people to disregard it?
Actually, that doesn't just go for that above comment, this article falls under the same category. If you know it's flamebait and doesn't really matter, why would you post the article? News that doesn't mean anything is just as useful as no news at all.
Oh, and, obligatory PC fanboy statement incoming...3...2...1...
My PC is better than the Xbox by at least 2:1.
TL;DR
LET'S ALL SHAKE HANDS AND AGREE THAT VIDEOGAMES ARE AWESOME NO MATTER THE CONSOLE!
(Oh well, it was worth a shot. :( In before 200+ replies >_>)
i pity the fools who really care about this stuff unless it's their job of course.
Uh huh. Ok then...
Dragon Age
DJ Hero
Forza 3
Borderlands
Brutal Legend
Halo ODST
Of course the PS3 has had some great games too, some also exclusive like Forza 3. The fanboy in you peaked a bit in your post.
(I have all 3 so who cares who wins. I win.)
Hammerman! Hammer!
Whenever there's a crime
Some crooks are gonna do time
They all better beware
Cause the Hammerman will be there!
Here's how it started
A long time ago
The legend of the Hammer
And how it began to grow
He was given magical shoes
From a hip-hop motown dude
Together they had power
They stood up for what was right
But Gramps was gettin' old and
He couldnt keep up the fight (right)
So Gramps and his granddaughter
They went out on the road (searchin')
To find a man they knew who could jam
Who was worthy of the load
They met a guy named Stanley (Stanley)
Who was dancin' every night
He helped the kids play every day
His heart was out of sight
So Gramps opened up the bag
And took out the magical shoes
He set them on the ground
And they soon began to groove
The shoes knew at once
They had finally found their man
They hopped right on his feet
And he became Hammerman!
Hammerman! Hammer!
Hammerman! Hammer!
Hammerman! Hammer!
Hammerman! Hammer!
Oh Yeah![/url]
I think he was talking in the way of exclusives more then anything (only two of those games are exclusive), as well as the fact most of those games are not what the MW crowd are looking for.
1. Demographics anyone? 360 is known to have *that* type of audience more so then the PS3. GeoW, Halo, and more are a part of that crowd. It'd be hard to deny this. PS3 audience while similar in many ways still differs. Multi-media freaks, perfectionists, and a more Japanese-styled audience exists on the PS3.
Just look at all the rappers getting into MW2 on the 360. This point is OBVIOUS.
2. There are more 360 owners.
3. As noted above, PS3 has had more exclusives as of late. It can be said that much of the same people that might buy Uncharted 2 would get into this, but many of them may not have the cash after Uncharted 2.
4. 360 owners are the type to buy over-priced DLC type games like this from evil companies like Activision, I mean they already PAY MS hundards of dollars that they are forced to use on top of the basic console.
Hear's someone while reading this: *OH NO U DIDNT!!!*
Not to mention almost every ad I've seen for Modern Warfare 2 ends in an Xbox 360 logo, telling people about the MW2/360 bundle. No PS3 logo in the ad at all.
@ Cowboy TTop
I could say the same about Microsoft not packaging a Wireless Network Adapter with their systems - which, if you need it to play online like I do, adds another $100 to the price - but I won't.
Except that I just did.
Xbox sold 33.06M consoles... PS3 26.35M.... 2:1 ratio right... Right ?!
Checking sales before posting is also known as Logic... Use it...
Your argument is flawed. At launch, the Xbox 360 chased the online crowd whilst the PS3 went after the media aspect. Surely its more apt to chastise Microsoft for missing out key components such as the Wifi module WHICH AIDS THE GOAL OF THE CONSOLE - Sony kitted the PS3 with a Blu-Ray player, which was their primary goal all along. Who gives a shit if it has less Modern Warfare 2 players when they've cornered a significant chunk of the future of disc-based movie sales?
I was thinking the same thing. I assume that they're probably just looking at console sales in America. After all America "is" the world, & the rest of the planet is just some 3rd world backwater that isn't American enough to count.
Forgetting about my sarcasm for a minute, it wouldn't suprise me if there are twice as many 360's in the old US as their is PS3's, but that's not the whole world picture.
360 owners have been lacking a good amount of outstanding exclusives recently. Apart from Forza 3 (from what I hear Halo ODST isn't outstanding), there hasn't been a lot out there.
PS3 owners are still playing Uncharted 2 & Demon Souls at the moment.
I also think that PS3 owners aren't as much into online as 360 owners. A big part of MW2 is online, & the SP is a bit short for a full price game. I'm not suggesting that PS3 owners don't go online, just that 360 owners are more passionate about it (they pay extra money for the privilege, after all).
bad bad journalism..
Cowboy TTop: You sure about that? When I was playing the MAG beta it sure seemed like most people had headsets. Not that they shouldn't pack in the excellent official bluetooth headset, but for a game like MAG I think most of the people who are going to be interested in it are going to have the hardware already.
personally i went with ps3 version i own both consoles but my live membership expired 2 months ago and i have no intentions of renewing it, game is great on ps3 as i am sure it is on xbox, already got 26 hours in mp must sleep sometime this month not sure i can make time for that
