Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is a project that my alter-ego Tron Knotts was lucky enough to get involved with some months ago, with his creation of the Spartan Mario power-up. Since that time, the project has grown to become a simply enormous fan-game, bigger than many full-priced retail titles. It includes Mega Man-based power-ups for each of its currently playable characters: Mario becomes Mega Mario, Luigi becomes Proto Luigi, Sonic becomes Quickman Sonic, and Tails becomes Gyroman Tails. Those of you who grew up in the post-Saturn/N64/PS1 era may not understand how monumental this is, but for those of us slightly more long in the tooth, a crossover of this caliber is a videogame dream come true.

If you've got time to kill this weekend, the latest beta of the game is totally free and ready to be downloaded. Better yet, the team responsible for Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is always looking for quality submissions. Their website is right here.

The fact that this is not in a format on which i could play it on my 7 year old mac makes me a little sad.

Mario doing a slide move. Priceless.

You're right, I don't understand how monumental this is, though I'd very much like to.

Ace, there is really no way to describe it. The closest thing I can come up with is if Kratos, Master Chief, and Niko were all in a game together, taking the best elements from all their games and bringing them to one title. This is, a game like that game would suck, because Halo, God of War, and GTA don't fit together.

These games do. And it's awesome.

Is it bad that when the title screen music played that all I thought of was that Mega Man III song with lyrics from Destructainment yesterday?

@ Kamikaze- MKF is running on NES/SNES resolution, so Genesis sprites like Sonic 3's aren't usable. They're sadly just too big.

Right now we're running a contest for who can make the best custom Samus sprites in the NES title's size, as all other sprites sheets for the character, even the GBA'a, are too big to use.

To be totally honest... I don't get it. Seems like a random mishmash of less than cohesive elements from the different games. As opposed to normal crossovers, which convert characters from different places into the rules of that game world. Kinda neat to look at, but I don't think I'd really want to play it.
