Multiple companies team up for new all-star RPG, Cross Edge photo

Hear that rumbling in the distance? That's the sound of a tsunami brought on by the overactive salivary glands of a few thousand RPG lovers who've just heard the news about Cross Edge, a new PS3 game in development by Compile Heart.

Namco Bandai has joined forces with Capcom, Nippon Ichi, Gust, and Idea Factory to tell the story of a world whose only means of survival is to consume and destroy the souls of other worlds. Not much else is known about the game at this point, except that it will feature characters from Disgaea, Darkstalkers, Air Tonelico and Atelier Marie, likely among many others to be revealed in the coming months.

We do know that the game's battles revolve around an action points system that limits a character's involvement in each fight, so it doesn't sound like there's anything wildly different on that front, but we'll see about that as new info becomes available. Cross Edge is slated for a September release in Japan, at which point you'll have had plenty of time to mull over how gross that saliva thing I said earlier really was.

I really hope this doesn't end up as another neat cross-over game that never sees the light of day in America.

This is like one of the best things ever for JRPG fans.

If Square-Enix had joined in, I would have been a puddle on the floor for days. DAYS!

I think it's time to officially start saving for a PS3.

The PS3 is in desperate need of a good RPG, and if they can pull this off I think it'll be awesome. Here's hoping.

Big names doesn't necessarily mean good. So many RPGs have been made by big names that forgot the importance of a quality storyline in the games while they focused on action-oriented elements.

this will never make it to north america, there is NO way a gust crossover will have ANY appeal here, and i might add, it will probably not even be good (like namco x capcom, merely "meh) but still WAHT DO WANT

Agree with a lot of above posters. This probably won't make it to the US. And even less chance of making it to Europe. SO no cat-girls for me.

and what's so sad is that both NxC and CE would make so much money in America if they just released it.

Mmmmmm. I have my doubts of this receiving an English-language release, but with Namco x Capcom having just had it's beta fan translation release, the future is bright nonetheless.

I have higher hopes than maybe some others because NIS is involved. They've become another Atlus in the video game world, releasing niche games that only 10 people buys, but they keep bringing them over. They must have a magical pile of money that keeps them going.

The great thing about NIS America is that they listen to their fans. If enough people went to their website/message boards and made a wish on Pram's wishlist, they'll make it happen.

So when it gets closer to release those of us that REALLY want it need to make a fuss with them. They're the ones most likely to bring it over...

unless Capcom or Namco Bandai end up being bitches about it or something.
Wedge's Avatar - Comment posted on 05/07/2008 19:10

OMG YES. Please let NIS and Capcom work together somehow to release it here D=.
