Seems like if you start anything with these four letters, you're doomed for failure. Coin Operated? On life support. Chickens? They're flying them. Cooperative gameplay? Muerto. But why? We can attribute a ton of factors to this. The Trojan condom company has aggressively (but not forcefully) expanded operations and improved their marketing, so there are smaller families now. Now that we all have reality TV, people don't want to spend time with their neighbors - they have better ones inside the gas crystal. But all jokes aside, the rise and benefit of online connectivity vs. packing four fridge-sucking friends on your couch to kneerub each other in a game of 007... sucks... unless you have four TVs and a very forgiving wife. But then you look at Contra and it's infinately more fun to play 2 players than by your lonesome - same goes for Life Force, Ikari Warriors, and all those other old games you sold for very bad reasons later in life. So when is that loving feeeeeling coming back?!! Probably never. Its up to a fantastic indie game to educate the industry, or an established developer with investment backers whom have in their possession THE NADS OF CONAN. Until then, our good neighbor at Bits Bytes Pixels and Sprites explores the Co-Op disappearence in a story entitled
Dear Next Gen, can Co-op come out and play?
