Multiplatform Final Fantasy XIII not a 'betrayal' photo

Oh, silly Square Enix, naively attempting to appeal to fanboys with logic. Square Enix has recently addressed accusations of treachery from stupid PlayStation 3 fans who threw a hissy fit when they found out that Final Fantasy XIII was going to appear on the Xbox 360 as well as PS3. Using basic logic, the company has attempted to penetrate the thick skull of the average PS3 obsessive. A noble goal.

"I’d rather they not think of [Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360] as a ‘betrayal’ or disappointment," explained Square Enix Corporate Director Shinji Hashimoto. "It’s not like we’re cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all! It’s more of an added bonus for 360 fans. We won’t be putting them at a disadvantage in any way."

Fairly simple stuff, but I doubt it will do much to persuade the kind of selfish moron who got melodramatically upset over this. Hashimoto also addressed, for the millionth time, the belief that the PS3 version will be "downgraded" so it can be ported to the 360. Are people still seriously whimpering about that? Apparently so.

"I’d like to add… I think that maybe because it’s going multiplatform that some fans are worried about the game’s scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles," stated Hashimoto. "The fact is, the PS3 version is what’s in development right now, and the team is working to specialize that version to the very best of the PS3’s abilities."

Something most sensible people knew already, but I guess we need to reiterate it for those at the back of the class.

Ported to the 360, hello, PORTED. I do not see what the fuss is anyway, square have a lot of ground to make up, their recent efforts on PS3 and 360 are nothing to be getting excited about.

To be honest I don't think the initial shock of FF13 going multiplatform is over. The PS3 had a trump, and everyone believed FF was that series. And it was taken away, so it'll probably take until this game is released for fan boys to stop and detach themselves from the box.

Am I the only one who thinks this is going to be a generic game? Look at sqeenix's last few games...None of them have been great. Some OK, and I mean just slid by the OK watcher at the OK race and a ref didn't call it, kind of OK. It's almost as if Square has said, 'Oh shit these gamers don't know our old tactics and stories, time to recycle.' Is this to prep them for FF13? Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant? They came and went with not a single person I know really considering getting them.

Look people companies are going to do what they feel is going to make them money and going mutiplatform is the only real way to make money. Hell I don't hear people talking about when Square left Nintendo all those years ago to make Final Fantasy 7 on the Playstation instead of the 64. Get over it companies are going to do what they want for the almighty dollar, euro, yen or what ever currency it is where you live at.

I was joking XD. Bussiness are bussiness and a company like S-E can't risk everything to an only option, even if that option is Sony.

Every gamer deserves to enjoy a game like Final Fantasy XIII.

@catsithx: the reason square moved to the PS was due to the CD format offering bigger storage, which afforded them more room to fit bigger games on. Also lots of people got butt hurt by that move, just so you know.

@anonuser: yea I have infinite discovery and I thorougly enjoy it. It's also not by the FF team, just so you know. I plan on getting Last Remnant as well, which is also by another dev team.

Seriously Squenix should just come to one of these press conferences and shout "YO BIATCHES WE LOVES SOME MONEY", then the fanboys may listen. Probably not.

I wish someone would ask these assholes the hard hitting questions.

1) Will the PS3 version be released in North America when its finished regardless of the state of the Xbox version?

2) If no, then why did Last Remnant come out first in North America?

No one cares about exclusivity.. We're not console fanboys! We're FINAL FANTASY FANBOYS!!! We moved to Sony from Nintendo because you told us to. Had you told us to move to Microsoft from Sony, we would have.. but you didnt. You told us to go buy the expensive box. We want our game NOW! We were willing to pay upwards of $600 for our game now! We don't want to wait for the port and it's simply a double standard to make us.

Square Enix sold their biggest, most loyal fans down the river and they refuse to even acknowledge it.

I think the issue isn't whether it's gonna be on xbox or not, it's that we have to wait until the x360 version is done before it's release to the masses in the US. If they released the ps3 version to everybody, japan, us and europe, then made a x360 version, then there wouldn't be all this fervor.

Logic does not compute with fanboys. They can think the sky is red, and no matter what you say to them they will never believe its blue, they will just sit there like a jackass going "heeww hawww, heee hawww." It's nice square addressed it, but they really didn't need to, because fanboys don't understand logic.

This isn't completely true. Over and over SE said it was going to be exclusive to the PS3. So, I bought one solely because I knew I'd want to play FFXIII at some point, and I just happened to find a great bargain on a used PS3.

I would never, ever have bought a PS3 had I known that the game was coming out for the 360.

That makes two of us. The only reasons i wanted to buy a PS3 for was for backwards compatability (which they removed before i had enough money to buy one), and FFXIII. I'll probabley stick the lump on ebay now.

Also i am thrilled sqeenix have stopped this exclusive bullshit. FF are my fav games and yet i never played 10-12 because i flat out refused to buy a PS2 just to play FF on.

SE are still a business. Its a good thing they are waking up to the fact that the times of exclusivity on games has long passed for consoles, which we know can produce similar results.

Thing is, by the same logic, Chrono Trigger should be on DS and PSP, as both could easily achieve the same results.

While I'm happy to see FFXIII on 360 (take note on how to make money, Konami), I too feel that SE have lost their way a lot. Very rarely are any new IP created for home consoles, especially 360, which hit the market before PS3 and deserved something beyond a port of PC FFXI.

Also what SE need to do is try different genre of games. Dissidia is a step in a more positive direction. Dirge of Ceberus showed a certain need to perhaps outsource some IP for the desired effect.

Fanboys are impossible to please most of the time, however, I'd love to see SE outsource some of their IP like Front Mission, to someone else who would create a sweet action game out of it (no not you From Software, someone else).

On a flip side, some fans can also be right. Many gamers requested Chrono Trigger back on GBA, and are only now just getting it on DS. Why it took so long for them to respond to this request I'll never know, as its a SNES game, that only needed porting over. Perhaps flogging FF series first was keeping them busy.

Multiplatform games are a good way to make more money, its that simple.

Uhm. If you bought the PS3 while it cost 600 dollars ONLY in order to play a game that wasn't going to come out for at least a year... Hell, if you bought a PS3 NOW in order to play a game that doesn't even have a release date yet...

... Then you're an idiot. Sorry, but I've gotta be frank about this. Hello? If you're old enough to be a Final Fantasy fanboy, then you're old enough to have gathered that consoles often get cheaper and better as they go along. Of course, in the PS3's case it did kinda not get better (lost PS2 compatibility), but still! Idiot.

Mind you, my PS3 has gotten a lot of playtime since I got it, and mostly from console-exclusive games. Super Stardust HD, LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4 are all awesome games, I enjoyed the PS3 version of GTA4 despite it apparently being the inferior version of the two (soon three), and I still haven't even touched Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank.

I bought the 60gig PS3 for $150 bucks. I don't think I'm an idiot.

LittleBigPlanet is completely overrated and MGS4 is one of the shittiest games I've ever played. The only worthwhile game I've played on the PS3 was Tools of Destruction.

Yeah, and people though it was a "betrayal" for them to put their games out for Sony's Playstation and not Nintendo's N64.

Back them it was done this way because they wanted more cinematic games and the limitations of the N64 weren't going to allow them to do what they wanted. Now, they don't have that problem so they don't really need to make games exclusively for any one console and they can make more money.

I think the real question is: How many disks will you have to change in order to play the new FF from start to finish on the 360? I'm modestly guessing 3-4 disks for the 360, 1-2 for the PS3.
Robbo the hood's Avatar
Robbo the hood at 11/28/2008 14:50
I think the real question is: How much longer will the install time be compared to disc swapping? 10, 15 minutes? Multiple discs are so much faster than a 20 minute install, and if they do periodic installs like MGS4 the situation gets 100 times worse.
Robbo the hood's Avatar
Robbo the hood at 11/28/2008 14:54
How did the bias against multiple discs survive in the face of installs anyway? Why is this even a question anymore? It just seems like trying to latch on to something to be negative about despite a PS3 alternative that is not significantly advantaged at the best of times.
