MUGEN Battle Zero: The 2D fighting game we have always dreamed about is finally here

Ridiculously awesome

MUGEN is an open-source fighting game that basically allows you to make your own Street Fighter game. You can import characters from other games to make impossible fights like you've seen in hand-made sprite hacks like Scorpion vs. Ryu. Check out our previous Mugen coverage for a video of it in action. We don't know who submitted this, but the generous hardcore gamer left this note:

This is my very first mugen creation, created from almost four months of study and difficult trial and error. I've decided to share my masterpiece with all Underground Gamer Mugen Fans:

  • Over 100 Stages - I've selected only the best places to fight!
  • Full 100 Song Soundtrack - From countless albums and OST's, proven to keep your battles intense!
  • Over 150+ characters! - From almost every fighting game ever made
  • Rare Characters! - Perfect for any avid mugen collector, youwill find many rare fighters in this game!
  • Easy Setup! Drag the mugen folder anywhere onto the desktop, click into the folder, and double click the Mugen All Characters Battle Zero.exe, it's simple! *Warning, this file is over 1 Gig, but I put half a year of work into it, so I assure you with all my heart. It's worth it.*
  • So there you have it - Mugen Battle Zero is floating around on the internet somewhere. The best MUGEN torrent with over 800 characters appears to be active, as shown in the MUGEN video below.

That's a lot of video game fighting characters, and some funny guest appearances!

    Expect bugs

Like many independent hobby projects you're going to need to put in some time to tinker and tweak the configuration settings before MUGEN is stable for your specific system. A great resource to fix MUGEN's common problems is this forum, which has a number of utilities and stock configuration files to get the job done.

Though the game lacks polish and is incredibly unbalanced its a hell of a lot of fun! Great for a LAN party or just a bizarre spectacle on its own.
