Much bigger: See the DS Lite and the DSi XL compared photo

This video from UK mag Official Nintendo Magazine really puts in perspective. I knew that the DSi XL was larger, but holy crap. To hear that the XL's screens are 93 percent larger than the DS Lite's is one thing, but to see them running next to each other is another. You have to see this video.

It's not just size, though. The lighting is brighter and more even, and even the quality of the image seems greater on the XL. The video shows The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks running on both. No contest. The new screens are glorious. Seeing this, I almost feel bad for calling it the Large Print version of the DSi.

I don't know about you, but I'm sold now on this XL. While I don't love the idea of getting a 4th version of the portable, these screens look too good to pass up.

The saddest part is it still would probably fit into my pocket with room to spare.

It looks about as big as the original DS.

I'd actually consider getting one of these. I skipped over the DSi and I never actually take my DS anywhere, I just sit around a play it.

Been sold since day one. Just waiting for availability.

Last DS I bought was a DS Fat, so I think I can justify the purchase.

I wonder how Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents plays on the larger screens.

The DSi has a matte finish, but in that video, I can see reflections on the DSi XL. So it looks like they went back to a gloss finish on the system like the Lite.

I'll wait another 6 months for the next variant of the DSi.

Yeah, I'll wait on the XL before buying a DS... though not if the price is 93% larger!

yeah... while it looks very tempting ultimately I am not even going to bother.

the next portable Nintendo system is going to be out soon ( witch will be as good as GC )

and well with bigger screens = more power consumed = less batteries life

and I am going to guess there is no GBA slot eather.

I want this just to play my Chrono Trigger DS game finally. I refuse to play it on that 80's tv screen! That and I have a gift card for it.

They've improved the battery for the XL since the regular DSI, dunno if it's better than the lite though.

Good Lord, that thing's enormous. It'll be hard as hell to play Metroid Prime Hunters on that thing.

I'm interested, though. I thought the bigger screens would just blow the pictures up and make them look like crap. That video changed my mind.

My DSL's hinges are cracked, so I need a new DS. And good lord, those screens are WIN. Gahhhh I'm torn.

I do have a Gameboy Micro, a GBA, and an SP, but if that thing had a GBA slot I'd be sold.

if i wasnt cheap and just didnt buy a DSL might think about these

good if you have some kind of bag, instead of a pocket to carry it around in

R-FOUR support? N-FIVE support? Not that I use those ridiculous, evil contraptions. ;)
Is the XL worth getting, Dale? I'm still extremely happy with my DS Lite. Love how it fits comfortably in my pocket. I never, ever leave home without it.

I'm pretty sure the pixels are the size of hams though, I mean the Dsi was pushing it with making the screens larger without increasing the resolution (of course though if they increased the resolution it would probably lead to dsi exclusive games being stuck in a strange half generation).

Sold. I was waiting for something to go bad with my DSi to justify this. Lo and behold, the right shoulder button stopped working.

Wait, nintendo is making a handheld that's *larger* than previous iterations? That my giant, oddly shaped hands could actually hold without cramping after two minutes (see: every console except my now completely busted up DS Fat)? Sign me the hell up!

This is becoming more and more of a possibility now that my old DS Lite is suffering from the "Green Scan Lines of Death."

Yeah, I didn't know about it either until it started happening to me. Apparently it's happened to quite a few people.

I wish they'd release this instead of the DSi, because this looks rather sweet! But having wasted all that money on a DSi, I feel pissed that they are releasing this thing. In all likelihood there's going to be a next generation Nintendo handheld announced at this years E3 or the next one, so I wouldnt recommend anyone getting this.

My friend brought one back from his holiday in Hong Kong. The thing is huge. About the size of a netbook.

I need a new DS, broke my last and I might go for this one now. The pixels'll be HUGE though but the bigger screen would give you a slight advantage in DS FPS.

Why is it being compared to the Lite? Of course it's going to be significantly better.

DSi vs DSi XL comparison is what's needed.
