Much better: $70 GoldenEye controller comes with game photo

Hey, you know that $70 GoldenEye Wii controller that GameStop listed (and then pulled) awhile back? What a stupid idea! What fool would pay $70 for a controller?

When I asked you folks, it turned out not many (if any) of you would. Now, a Toys"R"Us listing makes things a little be more clear, and confirms what I had originally thought -- we're talking $70 for the controller and the upcoming Wii game, GoldenEye. The retailer is currently listing the bundle -- "GoldenEye 007 with Classic Controller Pro for Nintendo Wii." No images, but we have a pretty good idea of what to expect (shown above), based on leaked marketing/survey material we'd seen awhile back.

So now that you have a better idea of what your $70 gets you, I ask again: want or do not want?

GoldenEye controller listing pops up again, makes much more sense now

If the game is good I can definitely see myself buying this.

If that was a 360 controller and this was on Live Arcade, then yes. But I already have a couple classic wii controllers that never get used.

If that's what the actual controller ends up looking like and the game is good, then hell yes i'll buy.

Well I have been tentatively in the market for a classic controller for several years, and I love goofy-colored controllers, but I've got less than no interest in the game.

$70 is a reasonable (moreso, anyhow) price for a controller + game combination, the controller is unique in an intteresting way, so if I wanted to get the game, yeah, I'd probably be down with buying the bundle.

I actually don't have a classic controller yet. But I suppose that, if I'm going to get one, it may as well be a golden one. That coupled with my family's love of the original Goldeneye makes $70 for the game and that controller sound great to me.

@mitchell
no use? i've been using mine constantly. between megaman 9/10, cave story, tats v capcom, i probably have used my classic control more than my wiimote this year.

back on topic, since i have the original classic controller and am more than likely going to buy goldeneye, i'll definitely keep an eye out for this bundle. $70 is a little steep for a wii game plus controller, though. especially when i won't be using the controller with the packed in game. why you'd play a shooter on the wii with dual sticks is beyond me.

I want the controller more than the game. That thing looks awesome.

It still doesn't explain why the deal is $70.

Monster Hunter Tri came bundled with a classic controller pro for $59. Is this one just more because its a gold color ?

Anyway, why would you want to play with dual analog ? The Wii remote's IR is faster and more precise.

@ bobyoko - I use a Hori Gamecube digipad for Tats vs Capcom, seriously, hunt one down its worth it.

As for this...it IS shiny...and I dont own a classic controller yet (I also have the Club Nintendo SNES pad for VC goodness).

@bobyoko: I just mean I don't play my Wii much anymore.

I might go for that. I only have 1 classic controller and it is not the pro version. The controller would be much easier to use with the prongs. The SNES style form factor just does not work with the analog sticks placed where they are.

I still don't understand how they can justify charging full price for this game, when Perfect Dark HD was only $10.

Am I missing something? (Besides "Activision!", I mean.)

Perfect Dark was the same game, but in HD. Goldeneye is not the same game. It will have some areas that are the same, some that are similar, and some that are different. Buuuuuut....its on the Wii, so no HD graphics.

Perfect Dark XBLA = remastered (basically an updated version)

Resident Evil GameCube = Remake

Golden Eye 007 Wii = reimagining

I have a hard enough time buying any Wii game, even used, so no I will not jump on this but if I could find the controller itself used for a good price I would buy it. However, that will happen when the new console comes out, so what 2012?

Have you played Goldeneye on the N64 recently? Compared to the times now, the controls are fucking horrible. Stick with the dual analogs.

I already have a classic controller pro for my Wii (since I bought MH3) but if I feel like it, I'll get this so I can play multiplayer with my brother.

But either way, I'm still getting the game.

why would anyone wan't to play an fps with inferior classic controller controls when you have wiimote + nunchuck?

Depends if the game supports game cube controllers, if it doesn't I'll have to aquire a new classic pro controller. If the bundle gets available where I live, I might buy it.

I don't own a classic controller yet and this one reminds me of the legend of zelda cart for the NES, so consider me sold.

With two classic controllers already, that would be redundant.

that's very nice and all but does anybody else feel uneasy about daniel craig as bond in goldeneye? i love the daniel craig bond and all (far more than a pierce brosnan one, fa sho) but c'mon, it's goldeneye. we might as well have a connery bond in the world is not enough and get it over with.

FAIL

Brosnan was my first introduction to 007. I can get over the new films with Daniel Craig (or should I say Blond, James Blond), but to stick him in Goldeneye? WTF

The reason the fandom has been tepid about this game is because Activision is doing the same crap EA did when they made a "sequel" to Goldeneye. This is not an actual remake but rather a convinient way to sell a generic first person shooter under the same name as a wildly popular but very old first person shooter.
