MTV hints at 'big' Rock Band-related announcement, 'a whole other realm'

MTV hints at 'big' Rock Band-related announcement, 'a whole other realm' photo
     Rock Band

As if Rock Band hasn't already shaken up the industry enough already (are you sick of hearing about it yet?), there might be more on the way. Speaking with Reuters on the game's impending success and future, executive vice president of program enterprises at MTV Networks Music Group drops some hints.

"We're pretty optimistic about what the game is going to do," he tells them. "But our next big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly, is a move to a whole other realm."

MTV and Harmonix have been very clear about Rock Band not being just a game, but aobut being a new platform in which people experience music. They've already revealed part of their long-term DLC plans for the title, and appear to be delivering on the promise of weekly content updates. But "a whole other realm"?

Our hearts (and wallets) may not be able to stand it.

Oh man. We have a date with destiny, gentlemen.

And she just ordered the lobster.

Cereally, I remember Harmonix saying they won't do any more of the music games or some such nonsense. Be interesting to see what they're big idea.

@BahamutZero: FUCK YES, GIMME ONLINE WORLD TOUR! There are no good drummers ANYWHERE around here.

I think the Keyboard idea would be interesting. I haven't played piano since... I think it was 3rd grade unless you count the B-flat banging I used to do in High School to tune my Trumpet.

daddy your only solution is to get better yourself, then, eh? I am fucking lucky I live with a band. my friend plays sample pads in the band, so he started drums on hard first time and got like 98% (granted on one of the easy songs like maps or something)

Keyboards would be awesome, and actually, like the drums, teach you something useful.

I can't see a realistic guitar tutor without actual strings

lethal you can't add a line break between bbcode tags - you have to do tags for each line. sucks, dont it?

Maybe wishful thinking, but maybe their beat detection and custom track editor is almost ready?

weekly updates FTW! I hope its more full album announcements. If they can keep Rock Band as a platform and not a franchise like Guitar Hero, then I am totally all for buying good downloadable music

@dgenerate:

Ooh, that's a great idea!

I'm perfectly fine with weekly updates and what not. Online BWT would be AMAZING, but that means you have to rely on others who may or may not be at the skill level you'd need them to be. It's a huge gamble.

If MTV is going to be making the announcement, then it's bound to be useless and stupid. Like, they're auditioning for a US Rock Band Olympic Team or some shit.

Online co-op would be ideal. But most likely it'll be some lame MTV contest, like make a video of you and your friends playing rock band and send it to us so we can exploit you in some television show.

Do you get your own episode of South Park dedicated to your band's quest to reach 1,000,000 points?
