MSX and Neo-Geo games to be on Virtual Console photo

Now, I can’t read Japanese very well (translation: at all), but I did manage to catch the English words MSX and Neo-Geo amongst a sea of non-Roman characters on Nintendo’s official website.

What does that mean, you ask?

First, settle down -- stop knocking everything off your desks and screaming in eager anticipation. Confirmed by cubed3, Nintendo’s Virtual Console will now offer games from 80s standardized home computer MSX and classic (but expensive) 90s console Neo-Geo. Whether these additions will just stay in Japan is unclear.

This news is almost out of nowhere, but who are we to complain if Samurai Showdown is eventually only one awkward download away.

What do you think? Good news for more obscure video game fans? Or is this just another way for us to throw away our hard-earned money?

I hope they release games on time for it - and the good ones. I want my Waku Waku 7, dammit!

Any news of more games on the VC is good news. If they are good, and you haven't owned them before, the prices they charge are worth it.

Magical Drop 3 is RIGHT! And Magical Drop 2, which I found to have more dramatic combinations, despite feeling like a beta release.

The site says that MSX virtual console games will be available starting in the spring, and Neo-Geo in the summer. Great to have more support for the virtual console :)

First, ALL video games are just another way for us to throw away our hard earned moneys. It doesn't take a classic game to earn that description. That being said, I am looking forward to this since I didn't own either of these systems and I'm always looking to expand my gaming experience. I've heard good thing about some of the titles on both of these systems so if I can get them for $5-10 bucks without hooking up another system or leaving the house, I'll probably grab a couple.

Really, the only thing I can think of that I never got to play on MSX was the original versions of Metal Gear Solid and Vampire Hunter, the MSX version of Castlevania. The first two I already have on MGS3: Subsistence, and I don't particularly need the third.

Neo Geo, however, sounds awesome.

NeoGeo is awesome but it would be great if there was online for things like KoF. Ah well I still get to play Last Blade 2 awesomeness.

It's funny, I know a guy who has about $20,000 in Neo-Geo stuff. Like 4-5 spare consoles and sticks, a ton of games, maybe the whole lot of 'em, I dunno.

Anyway, he just got pwned by a small white box.

I think it's cool. Bravo to Nintendo for finding a way to bring MORE backwards compatibility to the Wii, seeing as how some other people (Sony?) think less is more.

I do remember reading something about this a long time ago as well -- this was the first I have heard of it confirmed, though.
... and Kannon -- I am a huge Nintendo fan (just ask my Princess Peach tattoo). You have to admit, though, the download service for the Virtual Console is very lacking and could be improved. Other than that ... Wiiiii!

***I really don't have a Princess Peach tattoo -- please don't start any vicious rumors.

Neo-Geo games are as close as we're ever gonna get to a "Virtual Arcade".

I have a Neo-Geo MVS cab in my house and a lot of the games still hold their own a decade later.

NOW, if they're gonna give me Fatal Fury and World Heroes. I won't lie, I'm not buying.

I'm also not buying Fire Pro Wrestling, Nam75 or Joy Joy Kid.

I WILL, however buy (the aforementioned) WakuWaku7, Twinkle Star Sprites, Garou:MOTW, Super Dodge Ball or any number of games that would cost me $100+ for the cart.

So... I'm not paying $5-$10 for a download title that I can get for $10-$20 in real life. It's the standard VC problem.

But if you offer me Twinkle Star Sprites for $10 (which runs about $90 in MVS form and is none-to-cheap for Saturn and Dreamcast) - I'm alllllllll over it!

Do people really still say "Dag!"? I remember hearing people say that back when I was in, like, middle school or something, and that was... one... two... carry the two... well over a decade ago.

Anyway, MSX and NeoGeo games on the VC would be awesome.

Which reminds me... I should probably get around to buying one of those Wifi thingers one of these days, so that I can finally connect my Wii to the internets.

FINALLY! A reason to play with my Wii! Though I already own a home Neo-Geo console, supporting it is hella expensive. If they keep up with the game releases, I'd rather get my SNK fix on the Wii. Let's just hope they make a CDZ controller to use instead of that classic controller.
