Microsoft is continuing the drive the Kinect hype train at full speed, attempting to cause consumer hysteria in time for the holidays. According to Xbox Live boss Don Mattrick, if you don't buy a Kinect before this week is over, then you won't get it in time for Christmas.
Mattrick made the claim at a Web 2.0 Summit talk alongside Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. He was asked by Kleiner Perkins partner Bing Gordon when consumers should purchase a Kinect to ensure a Christmas gift and he frankly answered, "By the end of the week."
You can't fault the publisher's marketing. There's no way that people won't hear a statement like that and then rush out to panic buy one. Even I felt a few-second pang where I felt I better get one quick, before quickly remembering that I don't even want one yet.
