MS: Xbox 360 can handle MGS4

MS: Xbox 360 can handle MGS4 photo

The rumors about Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Xbox 360 have refused to die, and just yesterday they had been reignited with gusto. In the wake of fresh speculation, Xbox Live VP John Schappert has expressed that he would love to see Guns of the Patriots on his platform, and has confidently declared that the 360 can handle its demands.

“I’m certainly in the fan club that would love to see Kojima-san’s masterpiece come our way. It would be wonderful to play Metal Gear Solid on the Xbox. It could become another of the many franchises that started their life on another console that are now coming our way.

“I can’t speak on behalf of Konami, but I can shed more light on the fact that we definitely have the power to run MGS4.

"There are a lot of recent examples that are in true high-def on our platform and aren’t on PS3. We’ve got an amazing amount of horsepower and graphics power.”

A common argument concerning MGS4 on the 360 is the declaration that the game is too big to fit on a single DVD. Because of course, switching discs is such a ridiculous hardship. With a few tricks, it is surely possible to get MGS4 on the 360, and it's no great stretch to imagine that Konami is heavily considering it.

The 360 can likely handle it, even though the machine itself sometimes can't handle being switched on.

Would I play it? Probably.

Would I feel dirty? Absolutely.

Hopefully, it'll come out on the 360 when the PS3 version of the special edition comes out. I doubt they'll release the MGS4 version already out.

So probably next spring?

Let's just hope the 360 owners won't be in the situation where they have to put up with broken-ass online gaming, fucking MGO.

@Menelaus:

WHY?! Why would you feel dirty? {facepalm}

Why does it possibly matter what box a game is played on as long as you play and enjoy the game?!

Swaping discs is a perfectly natural thing! The Kazolic church(Yeh, it took me a minute to think of that one) just doesn't want you to think that.

boy. I feel illuminated.

I wonder what examples he's talking about besides GTA4.

I don't mind if MGS4 goes to the 360, I just hate that MS is being so smug about it.

It's not the platform, it's the games. /sigh

Trash talking aside, I'm sure the 360 can handle MGS. It'd be nice to see some... classier titles on the red-ring-of-death-box. About as nice as it'd be to just see any titles on the bluray player with incidental game support.

This story just keeps getting better and better. I'm definitely seeing MGS4 360 as a large possibility at this point.

It's not that swapping discs is a major hardship, it's just that you shouldn't have to.

Sure, swapping out 3.5 inch floppies isn't that big of a deal, but wouldn't you just rather only have to load one CD-ROM?

Would you rather have to flip over your laser disc, or just load your DVD once and forget about it?

The bottom line is this: Disc space *is* a limiting factor on the X360, and will only get worse as games get more complicated.

Who cares? Other than the fact that I don't like seeing Microsoft all cocky and high up on themselves all video games in the future are going to be muliplatform. All except for first party games at least. The only thing that is important to me is that all multiplatform games are the exact same game experience on all consoles. None of this exclusive content for one system over another.

Didn't Lost Odyssey come on like 4 discs or something? MGS4 is sitting on the shelf doing nothing since I beat it, and I won't go back to it for the online as I'm not a fan of the PSN. A 360 version would kick ass!

I think it's funny when people trip balls over having to switch disks and cite MGS4 as an example of the future.

Does anybody not remember the install screens? Throughout the game there would be a good wait while the game reinstalls a new chapter or whatever to the hard drive, and this would take much longer that the time to hit 'eject', grab the disk, and shove in a new one.

If the purpose of defying disk-swapping is to save time or energy, then we have yet to see this principle held up if MGS4 is the commonly turned-to example of this advantage.

Swapping disks is NOT a pain - waiting for install processes is. I buy the game, I play it. Every moment I'm not playing it because of an install makes the PS3 or Xbox much closer to a PC.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I would like to remind that one of the features the NXE will introduce the ability to install games on the hard disk. Considering this and the fact that sweapping discs once or twice in the course of a 50 hours game wouldn't kill anyone, I think MGS4 could definitely come to the 360 with no need no be crippled. Also, as someone already noted, some games were already released on 3 or 4 discs and the world didn't come to an end. It's not like PS3, BluRay has any advantage over DVD, sheer size apart - on the contrary, it's slower and devs try to make up for it through data replication (and hard disk installs).

Also! MGS4 is the PERFECT example of a game that almost asks for multiple disks.

Completely linear, broken up repeatedly by acts and chapters. There wouldn't be a break in 'flow' by switching disks any more than there is now when the screen goes white. And it's not like MGS4 doesn't break the 4th wall ever.

If something like GTA4 required multiple disks, well. That's a different story. If I have to shove in a disk based on which island I am on, I will be frustrated fast.

But I'm not! I'm not, because I didn't have to in EITHER platform!

Miracle! No, wait... Science!

Xbox 360 version will propably have less graphics slowdowns, as Xenox is superior to RSX. I'm sorry to admit as a PS3 user. And the Blu-ray joke in the middle of the game was very stupid. Which would you choose: Wait for 5 mins installation between every chapter, or simply slide another dvd in in 15 seconds? I choose the latter. The Xbox version will not require an install, obviously.

The installations between chapters was painful, as my brother was playing a different chapter. Everytime we switched, the guy started smoking..

Do people really feel an intense rivally between the PS3 and the 360? They are basically the same machine, except one has Blu-rays and the other is cheaper. Beyond that, don't they basically do the same thing? Don't they have about 50% of the same games as well?

I feel the same way about people who passionately love the Backstreet Boys but hate N'Sync, or love Guitar Hero but hate Rock Band. I mean really, what's the difference people?

To all you people saying Disc Swapping is a pain...

Have you forgot how faulty the 360 DVD drives are? Do you seriously want to put any more strain on them at all? I prefur the 3 minute installs because they're easier on the system overall, plus they give you good opportunities to do things like use the bathroom or get some food.

The install times bother you? Go make a friggin sandwich.

Also... this MGS4-360 rumor needs to die, its getting rediculous to the level of the FF7 Remake rumor. I've said for a long time the 360-MGS4 isnt going to happen simply because it isnt a worthwhile investment for Konami.

I guess now they'll have to change Otacon's "hilarious" gag which goes something like:

"you have to change the disc now Snake - Oh wait! we're playing this on a PS3 blu-ray disc - no need for a second disc. How times have changed, huh Snake?"

Now it will say:

"you have to change the disc now Snake - these 360s are kinda crappy"

Am I alone in thinking MS's game plan of stealing exclusives from Sony seem desperate?!

"It could become another of the many franchises that started their life on another console that are now coming our way" Really reads: We like sloppy seconds!

They need to STOP shoving blank cheques at 3rd party developers in an attempt to steal PS3 exclusives or "promises" of exclusive DLC and START focusing on internal development and work on new relations/IP's with 2nd party devs.

In every console generation, it's the first party titles that define the system.

It isn't just swapping the discs vs. loading on the HD. Even with disc swapping, you'd most likely have additional load times during an act if nothing was dumped on the HD. Taking 2 minutes per act, the 8 minute is just the initial install, vs. having to wait for multiple longer loads per act I'd much rather have the HD dump with zero or very smally load times per act.

Hahaha you motherfuckers thing you're getting disc swapping? You're getting a 30 minute install of three DVDs with one final play disc, that's what you're gonna fucking get if you're lucky.

I'm going to be honest here. I don't care either way. I haven't even touched MGS4 in months, and I only use that disc for MGO now. And with the way Konami is handling MGO currently, I fail to see that going to the 360. And even if it does, that means only good changes to the MGO system as a whole.

Ugh. I'd rather have MGS2 again on Xbox.

True high def? There are very few console games this gen that are true high def. I can think of about 3: Everyday Shooter, Pixel Junk Eden, and Wipeout HD are the only games that I know are 1080p, 60fps NOT upscaled.

Having to switch discs is stupid, it should be a thing of the past. I don't want to have to get up to insert my disc 2, 3, or 4. Not only that, it completely breaks for the immersion of the game. I would assume that MGS4 is in fact something you would want to remain immersed in while you are playing it. Let's not mention the fact that Microsoft has a horrible method for packaging multiple disc games.. they just shove them in there on top of each other and place the ones that don't fit into a paper sleeve. Give me a fucking break. They are just being cheap. My R6V2 came with a two disc case for crying out loud and that was just for a demo disc. If they are going to release MGS4 on the 360, they damn well better do it right and not half-assed.

I've been switching discs since the PS1 days. It's not a big deal and nobody should make all the drama over it that is present in all these comments. Seriously.

Anyway, MGS4 on the 360 would just be a smart move for Konami and honestly I don't know why they wouldn't do it. You limit your income by millions and millions by staying exclusive to one console. Honestly I'll be surprised if they don't do it.

The game "Could" be made for the 360 but there is the problem of the fact there is 700 different sony advertisments in it such as the ps3 in the top of the nomad, Sunny's PSP, there was a sony phone I believe also, don't forget all the playstation jokes and stuff in it such as the ps3 blu ray joke on the 4th act, and the playstation joke when you reencounter psycho mantis after beating screaming mantis. I just don't think it would be right for the 360. OH and alot of Apple advertising too. And we all know Microsofts position on Apple.
