MS starts racial profiling, claims Hispanics like home entertainment best photo

Microsoft has been taking a page from the Josef Mengele Bumper Book of Research and is now racially profiling its customers. The Xbox 360 manufacturer claims that Hispanic people are "more concerned than the general population" with home entertainment products this holiday season.

According to MS' new Lebensunwertes Leben Division, 89% of Hispanics versus 64% of what Microsoft refers to as "real people" want a gift that "brings the family together." Microsoft speculates that that this is because Hispanic families are rife with debt, deceit and abuse. Probably.

Half of Hispanic adults "probably play video games with family or friends over the holidays." It is speculated that MS is interested in family demographics with its new "casual" push for the Xbox 360. It is also speculated that Microsoft will start measuring skulls next.

I'm a Mexican and I approve of this message.

At least they're not saying we steal the most amount of consoles.

I don't see how making a statement based on valid survey data is in any way racist or bigoted. Large enough sample groups can very effectively express the opinion of a larger population. It is simple statistics. Making a factual statement based on enough sample data is not racist. Of course not EVERYONE in that particular group will agree with the sample opinions, but that should be a given.

It's funny, I just read the next story and saw the following:

The Diffusion Group’s co-writer told Gamasutra that “[today’s] males between the ages of 18 and 35” are “heavy viewers of online video and quite comfortable spending money for online digital media.” He did not add that, in 2012, males would have information plugs in the backs of their heads to make learning karate or Mega Man levels easier.

It's funny how you can essentially take the same sentence or paragraph, replace male/female/age with hispanic/black/white/asian, and all of the sudden it's bigotry.

What a load of shit. Nothing racist about this at all. Did the water here in America give you the bug that makes you think everything is racist, Jim? Don't be like the rest of the idiots that suffer from this bug here.

@aaronf

You forget. Sterling needs sensationalist headlines to get as many views as he can get.

@Sterling

You call this racist, yet you posted that offensive article about Miyamoto's "instrument," which was borderline racist, and defended it?

If you didn't think it was racist, there were a couple of comments on that article that were bad, and they were not moderated at all. I'd say that's worse than Microsoft inferring something from a valid survey.

Your pretentiousness and hypocrisy are unmatched.

Jim, what the hell. Where does your "real people" quote come from exactly? And since when is doing a survey to try and determine what your customers want racial profiling? It's market research.

Did the flight to America mess with your head or something? You're reading far too much into things here...

When I still wrote for my school newspaper, I wrote a joke article about Halo 3 and "quoted" an Anthro professor lambasting Live players and closeted bigots and misogynists.

I thought it was a riot, but the calls I got from the Anthro dept. chairs let me know that they were less than amused.

Sarcasm is most of effective when it toes the line between plausible and ridiculous.

...it reads far more like a serious blog with attached rage than an entirely sarcastic article, Jim. Did you not realise that pretty much everyone thought the same way? There might just be a reason for that.

(That last line was sarcastic, btw.)

Miyamoto is his first target since he is to dangerious for microsoft to have around his rude gestures are meerly bluffs to get the mario creator in a dark alley sobbing and ashamed then he will cut his throat and make it look like Sony employee did it.

I can see this as being somewhat true. Most Hispanic cultures are very family oriented. I know that's not saying much compared to other cultures, but I know in my family we spend either Saturday or Sunday together at a family member's home and just shoot the shit. Since my brothers and I are into gaming, we often discuss it a bit and play some games as well.

Hey, those guys are my friends! j/k

I don't see the relevance in such comment by MS. My familiy don't use to play that much, at least not with videogame consoles (my mother loves Bejeweled and most of the solitaire games). Apart from that, we are a pretty close family but we don't use to spend too much time playing videogames together.
