MS: Project Natal to feel like 'a new generation' in 2010 photo

Microsoft isn't afraid of hyping the everliving crap out of its sure-to-be-disappointing "wave your arms like a stupid dick" toy. The company is continuing to make Natal sound like the launch of a brand new system, and Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer has added to the circus, as Natal heads for a 2010 launch. Not that it is in danger of being overblown or anything.

"When Natal comes out it will feel like a new generation has arrived," he boasts. ""I see it as like the launch of the Xbox 360 back in 2005 - there will be a launch portfolio of games to support it."

It's clear that Microsoft is going to make Natal look and sound like the birth of a God, whether the actual hardware works as advertised or not. Personally, I'm going to be holding out in a storm bunker and waiting for this childish "let's copy the Wii and pray we make the same amount of money that they do" fad is all over. Any more of this motion control garbage and I may need a bag to be sick into.

You're just saying that because you're fat.
Besides, i'm interested in this "portfolio" of games that will be launched with the Natal, among piles of useless mini games there must be at least one decent game.

Microsoft is setting itself up for a fall with Natal.

Over-hyping it.

I honestly expect Nintendo to announce a Wii price cut or launch a new SKU a week before the launch and sink this thing. Or Wii Fit 2 or something. They're not going to give up their expanded market to Microsoft without a fight.

Maybe when Natal's flopped people will finally shut up about it. I would've expected most games journalists to have learned better after the Wii proved to be such a disappointment, but they're already back to talking about paradigm shifts and changing the world.

All this hype makes it seem more likely of a ridiculous price for it. Like most 360 accessories.

Yeah they are overhyping this, and who knows if it will work.

But I don't think saying that you are going to hide out is rational. It may not takeover the whole industry, but I doubt motion sensing is going anywhere.

That's like in the mid 90's saying 'I'm going to wait for this whole 3D fad to go away'

Here's my look into the crystal ball--

Project Natal will end up being the 360 equivalent of the 32X. It's gonna fall on its face and take the 360 with it, as Microsoft will throw a huge amount of time & resources into a flop app. it will provide Sony a perfect opening to overtake them in the "console race", at which point they will only match Microsoft's position (b/c Sony continues to make the poor decisions they're currently doing, all the while arguing "long term long term").

Nintendo will continue to coast on top of the heap, content that they have finally avenged the gamecube.

...and analysts get paid to do this kind of stuff?!

This is Microsoft's poor way of trying to extend the lifetime of the 360 to match that of the PS3, assuming it lasts as long as Sony wants to convince us it will.

Natal can only succeed if microsoft puts it bundles with the xbox 360 or some new console bundled with it.
i doubt that nintendo isnt already busy with there next big thing that will follow soon after.

What I think Nintendo and now apparently Microsoft need to realize is that gamers don't want to jump up and down like jackasses to play a game.

Actually, they don't need to realize this. Because they're making more off of old grannies and 5 year olds than us gamers.

Basically.. I predict We're going to be abandoned for hightech-eye toys.

one thing that will be cool IF the capture is good will be exercise progams like fit and active, to do them untethered by the wiimotes and boards will be really cool, as well as the fact that it will be ale to actually detect form and be able to say things like "your right leg isn't straight, be sure to keep your right leg straight when performing this exercise".. it seems like something that MIGHT make me get a 360

Microsoft is coming out with this too late. If they'd done something like this at the dawn of the console's era it might have caught on. Now the 360 already has it's core audience and you're simply going to water down the experience for anyone who has the console at the moment.

It's like attempting to convert your sports car into a minivan after having it for a few years. You can probably do it but who knows if the frickin thing is even gonna start after you're done with it.
