If you believe that you're going to be merrily prancing through a Bourne trilogy wonder world when Kinect launches, then prepare to be disappointed. Of course, anybody buying Kinect should prepare for disappointment, but fans of voice control are in for a worse sting.
Word is that the much-lauded voice control will not be part of the Kinect experience when it launches in November. There is no news on a launch date for the advertised feature, with a Microsoft rep simply saying that the publisher "will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course."
On the bright side, it probably doesn't work half as well as the staged tech demos made it seem, but there you are. One less feature to worry about when this thing launches. Phew, I'd hate to think we were getting the full package!
No voice control for Kinect launch [MCV]
[Update: Microsoft kicks ass at marketing Kinect. It has now denied this prior statement, claiming that voice WILL be available for launch. Bourne trilogy antics ahoy!]

“Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010. Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV Shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time.”
MCV is trying to clarify why conflicting information was given to us at Gamescom. Apologies for all the confusion.[/i]
Nothing to see here.
Oh my God, the whole Natal =/= Kinect thing is getting funnier and funnier by the day.
Voice control
6 players
Sign language (the ABILITY is missing due to hardware limitations too)
What else has been cut from Natal to make Kinect?
The old switcheroo, get them hyped for NATAL then release it's retarded little borther KINECT, nobody will notice, promise. They'll just think we changed the name for marketing reasons.
Not to mention the most important thing they cut....
...the games.
If I wanted to play a dancing game, I'd get DDR or something, whole lot cheaper than "that Microsoft eyetoy thingy for Dance Central"
2 and half weeks till Move! Has anyone seen the PSN video of The Fight (You know, the one that looks a million times better than that kinect fighting game that has been called terrible by most of the people who've seen it) - It's got the dude from "Machete" as your trainer! I was kinda expecting like Wii boxing, a fight a few guys type game but it's a full on create a character, train and fight type deal - i'm fucking stoked.
Seriously, as MS keep listing Features which WON'T be on kinect, Sony keep releasing info on AWESOME games that WILL be supporting Move.
Like in 1994 and the almighty and great Final Fantasy VI.
Fuck it. We'll talk when you make something as good as FF6 Microsoft.
What the fuck are you talking about? That's how it's done. Or I could rewrite the entire thing and escape accountability. Would you prefer that?
Don't care about the move either... I just want a normal controller and good games... so hard to ask for? I gotta get my ass up and dance around to amuse some camera... no thank you.

I can feel another Jimquisition coming on... YAY!
you don't need to be a fanboy to see what I'm saying.
They've sold the world NATAL for months, and are now releasing KINECT which is a long way from what was originally shown. Lacks features (other than voice control) and lacks the ability shown as NATAL.
It's like showing off a new car that does 200mph for months, then changing the name and releasing the same car but it only does 60mph.
....then, uh, not releasing a single game worth playing on the uh, car, uh, thing. Except for some "will be fun for the mrs when she's drunk" dancing bullshit.
Kinect won't be available at Kinect's launch.
Well, at least that!!!
I'm not even going to get in to it with you because we might as well be debating the bible. Let's just say the fact that you used Fight as a positive for Move (a game that has already been critically panned by people who played it) to counter a different retarded game that happens to be on the platform you don't like says everything.
You're fighting a losing battle... But I see you've already realized that. While there are occasional morsels of truth in Sexualchocolate's posts about MS's shortcomings, you will nary hear that same tone taken with Sony.
Im with Dan on this!
*looks around* who? Me?
@GuitarAtomik
1) I haven't personally seen anyone "pan" The Fight yet, please, do put some links up, I'd like to see it.
2) I didn't "use" the Fight, (I didn't fucking need to! Kinect is crawling around in a pool of Move's Piss all by it's self) i was just saying that the video on the PSstore (In the Gamescon section) is fucking awesome and includes that awesome dude off of Machete.
I'm properly looking forward to Move, just can't wait to play the long list of awesome games that it supports. MAG with a 3D mouse? FUCK YES!
Kinect however, is now in the position the PS3 was in many years ago - it haz no gaems, let's hope they can dig their way out of that "no gaems" hole like the Playstation did. Here's a hint, it's gonna take years of relentless awesome exclusives. I'm not putting any money on it myslef though.
Yeah you!
I do see trolls jumping on the hate wagon tho.
@sexual chocolate.
The 360 has games just the same way the ps3 had games it's just the 360's motion controller isn't looking to snazzy right now. I know it's hard to see things in a balanced way but please do try.
Also, I know the 360 has games, BUT KINECT doesn't.
Check the release schedule for kinect games. There are games coming out for it, it's just none of them appeal to you.
Your taste does not make things a universal fact.
Nintendo fans have been saying the same thing for years about "lack of good Wii games"
That's an absurdly stupid correction to make. Of course there are going to be GAMES launched alongside it. What console or new accessary has not had at least one game to go with it? The obvious inference is that there are no games launching with Kinect that are either appealing or show off something unique and original about Kinect.
My apologies for not being a meme spouting tard but in the context to which I was replying my correction didn't seems absurd in the slightest.
His point again is that that's subjective. The same way there aren't any Move games I'd consider getting at launch (though I will probably eventually buy Move).
When I say "games" I'm referring to games that anyone other than 6 year old girls would like.
I'm your typical gamer, play a wide range of genres, and enjoy the same kinds of games as most other gamers do, and I can safely say that Kinect has shown me absolutely NOTHING to even make me consider it.
The only reason you have ever even looked at kinect is to flame it, you spend your time on here looking to score points in an imaginary war that's wageg only in your head.
only fucking retards will buy kinect or move anyway.
gesturing like an epileptic in my living room isn’t fun..
that's the stupid shit that made Heavy Rain suck..
Games being subjective is redundant. Everyone knows that. It was obvious that it was his opinion. Hell, it's the consensus within the gaming community, baring a minority who are looking forward to Harmonix's dance game.
Have I offended thee? Why are you mad?
Seriously dude, it's like your looking for a fight.
Games being subjective is never redundant and thanks to you jumping in and White knighting, this conversation has gone on way longer than it had to.
I am officially out.
No. A typical gamer isn't a biased twat like you are. Sony has it's cock shoved so far down your throat I'm surprised you can still breathe.
If anyone is picking a fight, it's you. Now go ahead and leave.
Kinect sounded cool, but once you see it at E3 and everything you lose interest.
"I can safely say that Kinect has shown me absolutely NOTHING to even make me consider it."
Yeah, because if Kinect had good games you'd totally run out and buy a 360, right?
Riiight...
PS - This will be my last @Sexualchocolate. I'm getting a jump start on my new year's resolution. Wish me luck!
The PR/Marketing Dept. better be willing to burn the midnight oil - they need to realease a fact sheet stat:
>things included at launch
>things not included at launch
Set the record straight Microsoft, right now everything is really confusing and nobody seems to know what's going to be in the box come November. They expect casual gamers to buy a product that even the hardcore are confused about? Good luck with that.
