MS bashes on Sony/Nintendo ... again. photo

All right, I've just about had it with Sony and Microsoft's bullshit. Their little verbal fencing matches were fun at first, but now it's just getting old. Old and lame.  GamesIndustry.biz had a word with Xbox boss Neil Thompson, and of course, he jumped at the opportunity to sling mud at the distinguished competition.

Here's a couple of quotes from Thompson when asked what he thought about Sony's delay with the European PS3 launch:

"In a lot of ways we'd like people to put the system side-by-side and see whether people want a platform where they're paying for Blu-ray straight away. Is Blu-ray that important to you that you want to buy into that platform right now and spend GBP 500 doing that? Or do you want a gaming system that has more high-definition gaming content today, has a better online service and provides you the choice of whether you want to upgrade to the next-generation of DVD platform in the future?"

OK, so Microsoft hates Sony. We knew that. But what do they think of Nintendo and the Wii? See for yourself:

"It has the potential of taking consumers spend and wallet share away from us in general, but at a product comparison level it's not competing with us at all. It's an innovative, low-definition product."

"People will make a clear decision as to whether they want that sort of product – a kids toy – or they want high-definition gaming and entertainment and all that it brings."

There you have it. The Wii doesn't even count as competition because it's a kids' toy, and PS3 is overpriced and doesn't offer enough high-definition gaming content today. Going by that theory, we should never ever have to pick up another gaming console, because hey, the 360's got us all covered!

No doubt Sony will have some smart ass retort of their own to counter this. Oh joy.

Oh boy. I'll just buy an Xbox 360 when I could just keep my computer and play a lot of the exact same games. Whoopie. And hey, who needs anything new in the first place?

I'm tired of these comments back and forth. It's just ignorance now. It doesn't matter what Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo thinks, it's what the consumers and the third party developers think.

I think Nintendo got it worse than Sony did in that. They didn't say anything bad about Sony aside from them not having an online service comparable to XBL, and that's a fair assumption seeing as how XBL has been around for a while, where the Playstation Network is fixing to launch and is bound to have it's fair share of problems. The thing that really makes him look bad is calling the Wii a "kids toy".

Is money all they think about? Jeez. Who's becoming arrogant now?

And Wii is for everyone! Doesn't he see the variety of different age groups that are able to play it?
His ignorance disgusts me.

Is it really that surprising that one of the Microcough higher ups is bashing the crap of the competition? No! Because we know he has already sold his soul to Bill Gates and now just hopes nobody will find out that he pre-ordered a Wii and a Ps3 for his kids...Also the Wii is a "kids toy" why because its SD?? I think the inovative perspective that Nintendo has will far and wide make up for the fact that their console isn't HD.

its kinda funny that microsoft is just randomly shouting out these repetitive defensive phrases to the media without any provocatition from sony.it kinda hints at something dont you think? and, about giving the option to put on hd dvd, it divides the market, makes the console less cost effective(which is really all it has) and stops it from having really any forward, out of the box momentum.sure, they say this is because they want it to be a "gaming only" device, but that doesnt shout next-gen to me.it shouts xbox 2.
