MS aware of Marketplace issues with NXE photo

It wouldn't be a Microsoft launch without hiccups. Despite having a generally smooth rollout, the New Xbox Experience has suffered from a few problems. There are reports of crashes and the obligatory red rings (my 360 crashed twice in the new friends list last night), but the most common issue is the Marketplace not working right, something I mentioned in the review.

Good ol' Major Nelson has posted to address the problem, confirming that it's not just my imagination. He has also stated that the issue is being worked on.

If you've managed to avoid the problem, it essentially assaults you with server errors when you attempt to access parts of the Marketplace, and is unable to retrieve information. Yesterday morning I was able to access maybe two Community Games in total.

Despite this, Nelson stresses that the NXE launch was an "incredible day." In terms of the nonsense that is usually attached to a Microsoft endeavour, I do have to say that the NXE contained a surprising lack of fail, all things quantified.

I've noticed the issue with the new friends list too. If I'm in the "avatar view" with all my friends and I view details on a certain friend, and then I back out of the details, it takes FOREVER for the list to load back up again. Hopefully, they fix this. No crashes, just slow load time.

One question you might be able to answer, is the community game suppose to be accessible from outside the US? IE. Denmark, cause I can't find anything about community games in the game marketplace. Being a software developer myself that kinda makes me sad since I was looking forward to doing games with a few friends and colleagues.

I noticed the server issues, but it's kind of expected. With everything being rehashed and appropriated for the NXE it's taking a bit to make sure the marketplace is fixed. They do tell you, however, when you sign in that some features are currently unavailable. It'll take a few days, then everything will be fine, right-o?

I had 2 freeze-ups last night. Besides that, I liked it. Navigation is stupidly faster. As soon as I get used to where everything is, I'll never look back.

Wow no PS3 fanboys in here ripping into MS for this obvious huge issue they are having with this update /endsarcasm? I'm disappointed. Did I wake up in some parallel universe today? No "OMG it froze twice, screw you M$"

@ssboisen: It's the same here in Germany. I'm guessing that it's for the same reasons you can't get it in Denmark:
legal issues. Thanks to intense German bureaucracy it is not possible to just launch this service right from the start. German product manager for Xbox Boris Schneider-Johne posted this on his blog: http://www.dreisechzig.net/wp/archives/1453
As you are in Denmark I'm confident that you can read German.

so glad i got rid of my 360. still have my games but MS is just running there extreme system into the ground to the extreme.

do you think they tested this crap before hand? dint THEY have problems with it? or do they have a magic 360 that works all the time.

i think this is why home is taking so long. there making sure it works as much as possible before they release it. i know there will still be problems, as long as it doesnt kill my system thats fine with me.

@dgschrei: thanks for the info, it's possible that we danes are in the same boat as our friends south of the border, however I don't think Denmark has a history of standing in the way of online services though.

As soon as I turned on my 360 after downloading the update, I had the red ring. 20 consecutive minutes of turning it on and off, and 2 hours of attempting the towel trick resulted in nothing but a few holes in my wall and a pleasant email to Microsoft. So not only do I get to wait even longer for NXE, I get to play my Wii.

...Damn. And there were no holes. And the email was not pleasant.

Sorry about everyone's problems with the update though, restarting your console is much more intolerable than UPS shipping rates.

The NXE has frozen my 360 twice now. Luckily, I wasn't doing anything important either time.
