Mr. Destructoid's had the honor of appearing at a lot of great events, but now he's about to add a new one to his repertoire: presenting an award! On September 14th here in lovely Miami, Florida, he will be appearing at The Burgies, an event being hosted by excellent local blog burgerbeast.com to honor the best "everyman" meals you can get your hands on around these parts, including best burger, best hot dog, best appetizer and more.
Alongside famous faces from Yelp, NBCMiami.com and more, Mr. Destructoid will be in charge of giving out the award for best hot dog, a matter I hold near and dear to my heart since I'm a huge hot dog fan (and yes, I know what's in them and I don't care). The event will be held at John Martin's Irish Pub in Coral Gables (see all info here) and kicks off at 8 PM, so if you want to stop by and get some great food and celebrate with us, I hope we see you there!
Burger Beast announces The Burgies Award Show
Since burgerbeast.com's inception we've glorified what Rick from South Florida Daily Blog has called "Everyman Food". The Burgies will celebrate South Florida "Everyman Food" and also celebrate the Burger Beast blog's 1 year anniversary.
The categories will be:
Best Burger
Best Hot Dog
Best Side/Appetizer
Best Frita
Best Cuban Sandwich
Best Croqueta
Best Pizza
Best Chicken Wings
and last but not least:
Best Burger - Reader's Choice
So who's going to decide the winners? Local bloggers who I've been in contact with along with the Burger Beast Cast of Characters will be allowed to place one vote for each category. The Reader's Choice will be via write in and that particular portion of the voting will start on Monday August 3rd through August 17th.
Will there be an event? Absolutely. The Burgies Award Show will take place at John Martin's in Coral Gables on Monday September 14th at 8pm. The Burger Beast menu will again be available that night as well as some new additions. If you attended our last event there, then you know we'll have some giveaways which will include Burger Beast T-shirts, Burger Beast Caps, Giftcards and a few other things.
Who is giving out the awards? Maria from Yelp will be giving out the Burgie for Best Pizza in South Florida. Jake Katel from the New Times Short Order Blog and Carlos Miller from NBCMiami.com will be giving out The Burgie for Best Frita in South Florida. Niero from Destructoid.com will be giving out The Burgie for Best Hot Dog in South Florida. Dave from the South Florida Beer Blog will be giving out The Burgie for Best Chicken Wing in South Florida. A few Burger Beast readers will be giving out The Burgie for Reader's Choice and last but not least The Burger Beast will be giving out the The Burgie for Best Burger in South Florida.
