My biggest problem with the film was the horrible and constant reliance on blue screen. It did not look like it was filmed in persia at all and just lacked that sense of place the film sorely needed. I mean the action was pretty bad and so was the plot too.
But I <3 Jake. In a heterosexual way.
I agree. As I mentioned, he definitely made the character better, but still a crap character.
But, really? They only use the dagger three times? You'd think that time travel was the biggest plotpoint in the whole movie.
Decent action sequences and a plot that didn't butcher the game's. Really, that was all.
@Phonics Monkey
Clash of the Titans was worse. This was still bad.
Film viewers on the other hand want everything easy and handed to them on a golden plate with a magic hand that gently feeds them a light plot that doesn't cause indigestion.
I'm not surprised, films and games just don't mix.
Pop was mediocre at best, but goddamn did Gemma Arterton look amazing.
Don't overstep your boundaries.
But it fails at epic action as well. It's script is all over the place. The direction doesn't keep up with anything, and most of the characters feel forced into the movie. None of the action sequences are well done and they miss out on so many great opportunities to do something creative. Ostrich racing! That isn't excusable in any movie, summer blockbuster or not.
These aren't complaints because it wasn't like the game they're flaws that make it a bad summer flick as well no matter how mindless you want to get.
If I really cared, I'd be dropping cash left and right to see Iron Man 2, Prince of Persia and Robin Hood. But I think I'll just see Robin Hood, maybe Inception and just wait for the rest on Netflix.
Some nostalgia goggles there, methinks.
At its core, it was basic, but the way it went about character development between the Prince and Farrah was what everyone remembers. They felt human, and they were very likable. The complexity was in how the story was presented, not the story itself much like Half-Life.
But No More Heroes does cheeseburger well. There's creativity there. Trust me, I love big summer action flicks when they're done well. This was not done well, and on top of that it destroyed the game. There's bad summer action that's fun to watch and then there's this which just doesn't do anything it's supposed to do as bad summer action well. Nothing made me say "All right, I'll put up with the standard Hollywood shtick because this is fun," because it just wasn't fun.
Also, Robin Hood is worth your time if you're a fan. Not great, but solid to watch.
except kick ass which was fun. Movies are in a far worse rut than video games it would seem.
The silent hill movie was crap except for the pretty amazing look.
Of course people called me names but it is the internet after all.
@elsa,
"though it might be worth watching for a little of that Jake-Eyecandy! :),"
This is a huge reason why it was doomed to fail. Whenever a director decides to throw in "eye candy".. then that's it.. might as well go home because this movie will be shit. If you want "eye candy" just google the fucking guy.
That and the screenplay writers had ZERO experience. Want to know something else that one of the screenplay writers had made? From Dusk Till Dawn 2 and Dirty Dancing 2. Seriously.
Three movies worth watching come out for each game worth playing. There are so many great movies being made, it's ridiculous. You just have to know where to find them. Most of the time, they're not going to be at your local theater.
I actually meant in the cinema. I do realise there are many great independently developed movies coming out all the time.
I understand that plot changes had to occur, but obliterating the characters into uninteresting tropes did not. Because of this the returning to point A made no sense. In the game the Prince is a different person, in the movie he's the same guy he just knows who the bad guys are. There's literally no change in character.
As I stated before, I love summer action flicks. It's my favorite time of the year. This is not a good one for the reasons I listed above that are outside of it being based on a game (crappy action, poor plotting and uninteresting characters). It isn't fun. On top of this I am a whiney gamer and I want my game movies to be as good as their games.
