Movie Review: Ace Attorney
Destructoid's friendly, neighborhood movie site Flixist is covering the Japan Cuts Film Festival in New York all this week (along with the New York Asian Film Festival all last week) and to kick off the events they've got an epic review of the film adaptation of the Ace Attorney game series. You may have seen the trailers and such previously, but it's possible they didn't prepare you for how good the film actually is. I was expecting a weird, quirky film that pandered to the fans and didn't really reach out too much more, but it appears that with legendary director Takashi Miike at the helm he's created something that not only grabs the gamer's side of things but becomes a thing in and of itself, something rarely done by gaming movies. I was expecting fun, but it sounds like what we get is a good movie along with it. To read all about it check out the full review of Ace Attorney over at Flixist along with info on how to see it if you're in New York. Did you know? Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)It's gonna be weird and quirky just like you imagined. Miike is good but highly overrated. He does weird and quirky very well, but that's all he does @dtomek- you are incorrect. Miike's filmography covers every genre, and the best of his films are his deadly serious ones (Audition, 13 Assassins, Demon Yakuza, Graveyard Of Honor) so there :-P It's good to hear that the film isn't bad, but I don't want to risk tarnishing my image of the game. The game got the story across so perfectly I'm not sure if I feel the need to see it again in movie form. Maybe one day if I see it on DVD I'll pick it up. I saw it at the Asian Film Festival of Dallas on Thursday and it was really good. It's been my favorite movie of the festival so far anyways. Hey I just got off the phone with some company called Zergnet.com, they were looking for a "Mr. Destructoid". They gave me the third degree, wanting to know where they could find him. Something about demanding their businesses model back... @Raby you realize Flixist is a sister site of destructoid and covers movies and stuff right? this is a movie based on a game so it makes sense for a game site to link you to their movie site about it... @Scissors: My inner nerd in love with the franchise is screaming like a little girl and won't stop until I watch this. as long as I am able to witness the unease of parents expecting mindless fun for the kids i am content.
(sitting through Miike's Yatterman my magical moment was during the scene when the android ants were piercing the mecha-woman's giant nipples, the faces of the asian mothers sitting beside me were priceless) I saw this at NYAFF. I am a huge huge fan of the games, so it was hard not to love it. All the same, it did drag a bit towards the end. Still the only good video game movie I've ever seen. Does anybody know good free movie downloads site? 1:30 PM on 01.20.2013 Virtually Heroes is the worst videogame film yetBeing that I'm covering Sundance Film Festival for Flixist (Dtoid's hot younger sister site that is totally legal and wants your number) this week, I had the great displeasure of watching Virtually Heroes.
