Sorry to burst bubbles, but the online multiplayer isn't realtime head-to-head. You can race ghosts, but they appear as long-tailed arrows (which I actually quite like) rather than the standard transparent car you see in other games. The only you know which car someone uses is when playing local split-screen on PS3.
